Jumping the gun abit arent you mate, the film was only released today so there wont be any info about it on dvd yet but going by the past releases probaley a 2 disc release in August and a 4 disc release in November unless they decide to release them both sooner.

As for a Trilogy release, I wouldnt be suprised but not for awhile.

The extended edition in Aug or September because there is no 4th film to hype it won't be the usual August and November releases for both versions and Peter Jackson has made it clear he's off to work on King Kong early next year.

I finished reading the book last night and saw the film today, have to say the end is excellent, they kept the very last chapter almost untouched and im glad that the last words said in the film are also the last words written in the book.

Just a thought, but when ROTK EE is released on DVD next year, that's your lot...

NO MORE LOTR FILMS, END OF STORY :( :(

    Pretty sad really.

How will we cope without our twice yearly LOTR fix ?

I suspect that it isn't completely implausible that Peter Jackson may be persuaded to make The Hobbit as a prequel. :) At the very least, casting for Gandalf, Golum and the elves is already done... ;) :)

On TTT Fran Walsh says that they want to re-edit the trilogy into a chronological order DVD release, beginning where Smeagol finds the ring. New Line have bought the rights to make The Hobbit, although they don't have the distribution rights, they belong to MGM, so they could make the film, but not release it. This is exactly the situation that plagued the making of Spiderman for years. So don't hold your breath!!

Sir Ian McKellen on J Ross tonight (Friday) hinted that once the contractual stuff between New Line Cinema and another party had been hammered out, then 'The Hobbit' was looking like a definate maybe, with PJ expecting to be asked to direct and the usual suspects to take their roles as in the trilogy.

Jonny Vegas also claimed that he read for the part of one of the hobbits. Very funny interview.

I can't help feeling Ian Holm would be too old to play Bilbo in a film of "The Hobbit", though. :(

During his Jonathan Ross interview, Ian McKellan also mentioned that the extended cut of ROTK should be "about 5 hours long"... Makes sense as Peter Jackson's first cut of the film was apparently 6 hours.

Theatrical version DVD expected May 24, comes from more than one source one of them a franchisee for games and toys and another who works in DVD production .. theory is to release before Potter III comes out in June. No rumours as to the EE version beyond the official statement early this year of November again, though that also was still saying August for the first version.

Also strong rumour of a trilogy DVD re-packaging, prime source being a graphics designer who has been approached to do design work for it .. note this is less certain that the May release date, as I read TORn anyway. :)

I think they will release the EE of ROTK about 4 - 4 1/4 hours and then in 2005 we will get the special trilogy release with a 'bit more' footage in each film to make us all rush out and buy it agian :=)

Or as Peter Jackson said they could make another movie just "fattening" up the other three movies and tie them all together :)

    He was joking of course.
