    Hi

dont know if anyone else has the LOTR Bakshi version but I was watching mine and compared it to a taped copy I had from channel four some years back.

The 4:3 TV recording clearly show more picture at the top and bottom compared to the 16:9 DVD - this leads me to believe that the DVD transfer is incorrectly framed - taking the 16:9 aspect from a full frame print.

I hope Im wrong - I supose it may have been released in the theatres in 4:3 but I doubt it

    anyone got any ideas?

    cheers

Tens of thousands of films are "matted" to a theatrical aspect after being shot/animated full frame. It's common practice.
