    Hi all,

I have got the Denon 3802 amp and currently only use 5.1 setup.
I am moving soon and will be upgrading to a 7.1 (or 6.1?) system.
I will tell you my system spec, then ask all you good folk some questions.(which hopefully you will be able to answer)

I have a panny 42 plasma, which will be wall hung at the new house.
I currently have Eltax Liberty floorstanders at the front, with Eltax centre and some Eltax Liberty 6 speakers as rears on stands.

I hopefully will be upgrading to the B&W DM602.5 S3's for the fronts
DM601 S3's for the rears and the LCR60 Centre speaker

    I have a yamaha YST 320 sub

    Some questions are:

    a) Do I use 1 or 2 extra speakers? The amp has outputs for two I think?
    b) Where abouts do I mount these extra speakers?

The room layout is about 11 feet by 20 feet,
with the plasma on one of the 11 feet walls, then I would have a sofa about 10 feet from the plasma with two rear speakers on stands about 4 feet behind the sofa on each side facing slightly in to the middle of the room. Behind the sofa is just 8-9 feet of dead space where we might put a small table etc.
The main viewing place (the large sofa) is acroos the middle of the room, effectively blocking it (but we have another door from the kitchen into the 'dead space' area)
    c) Do I mount speakers next to the sofa on the walls on each side?
    d) Should I use dipole/bipole speakers for a diffuse sound?
    e) what speakers (di/bi) would match the B&W setup.

    f) which set of speakers would be the mormal rears in this case?
    g) or should I use another pair of say DM600 S3's for my extra pair of speakers?
    h) or should I use just one extra speaker? should that be another LCR60? or a DM600? or what?

    AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH

Basically, what speakers do you recommend for using a 6.1/7.1 system with the spec I have listed and where would you recommend placing them.

Hope someone can help me?:D :)

    a) use 2 if space permits
    b) can't quite picture your layout, but basically you want the left and right surround on the left and right walls facing the listener, and the the rear surrounds on the back wall behind the listener spaced apart (but obviously not as far apart as your L and R surrounds. Have a look in your Denon manual it has some pretty good diagrams for this kind of stuff.
    c) not sure what you mean there, but see above answer
    d) i would say stick with whatever speaker type you have as your current surrounds. Cant find the Liberty 6 as the eltax website so dont know what it is but if its direct radiating then use direct radiating for surround back.

oops just spotted you are getting B&Ws, then go for another pair of 601 S3s for the rear surrounds. The denon outputs the same power to all channels so go for 4 identical rears.

My sig below shows what I have got, but this is where they are:-

    Fronts either side of plasma
    Centre above plasma
(all very simple so far :D )
Surround L/R are behind due to no room at sides but as far apart as possible.
I have 1 surround rear (3802 can drive 2) directly behind where I sit.

My room is only slightly smaller than yours (10 x 18 ft)

The above setup gives a good sound stage and the LCR60 seems to work well as a surround rear.

    Mark.

I would also audition 602S3 on decent stands for the fronts.

I've found then to be much better but it does depend on your room, etc. From my understanding the 602.5s are a lot closer to 601s than 602s in design, etc.
