    Hi folks,

Long time lurker first time poster.

Awhile back I started my home theatre journey with a modest £300.

    I bought 5 KEF 1001 eggs, a monitor audio vw8 sub and a Yamaha Rx-v477 receiver.

Honestly I love the system but I slowly want to upgrade the system over the next year or so from a few paycheques (£100-£150) to spend.

I think the best upgrade I can make right now for £150 would be to upgrade the centre KEF 1001 speaker. After that I’d upgrade front left and right!

My question is what would be a good centre speaker that would fit with the current system but would also fit with a nice future upgrade.

I’ve seen a kef 5001 centre on eBay for £50 but I think I can do better.

I’ve seen a kef 3001SE for £130 - could that be good???? (I could then get 3001se for left and right in future)

I’ve read on these forums that sticking with the same brand and model range is usually a good rule of thumb for

Really would love some guidance here!

    Thanks all for your help

I’ve got three Kef 3005SE centres as my front LCR.

No complaints from me - a good “lifestyle” speaker.

Must look like a scene from the 1950 War of the Worlds in your living room.:)

It turned out to be a really good solution for me.

The wife doesn’t like all these speakers (she doesn’t know about my Atmos plans ) and this allows me to fit my front three under the TV.

I appreciate the placement is far from ideal but it’s a good compromise.

I started my home cinema a good few years ago with the Kef 2005.3 package and bought a 3005SE package earlier this year from a fellow member here.

I was impressed with the upgrade and in particular the centre speaker so I bought another 2 centres on eBay and it works really well.

When I started my upgrade several years ago I e-mailed KEF and asked about running the Egg centre alongside the R100s and they were confident that it would make a good front three although in the end I bought the R200C. I kept the Eggs themselves are surrounds until the 100s were upgraded by R300s. The 3005 Eggs are very good well made speakers.

Fully agree and that’s what stood out for me with the 3005SE centre.

It just felt solid, well made and of course it sounds good as well with an increased sense of scale over my 2005.3’s.

As you also mention, the Kef’s also have a good upgrade path and I’ve also found they hold their value well on the used market.
