Okay I'm looking to replace my trusty old Sony 725 which I bought some 6 years ago. Two reasons:

    1. I'm looking at getting a plasma screen before the end of the year and

    2. The player can be a little tempremental at times although it seems to get over it (the old C13 error)

Anyhow whats out there thats going to give me the same quality or better with component outs and / or HDMI - along with pretty decent CD playback which is just as important.

My budget is probably around the 500-600 mark - although I do like the look of the Denon 3910 and Pioneer 979.....

    Help :lease:

I've got the same player and have just got a Panasonic PV500 plasma and DMR es10 dvdv recorder which outputs prog scan. I do not see any significant difference between the 2 players so my advise would be to first get the Plasma then see how the PQ looks to you before shelling out more dosh.
As far a musical performance goes you might want to look at an Arcam DV88 or if funds allowed a DV79 as both are very good. To be honest if you have a halfway decent sytem then I'd stick to a stand alone unit for CD replay. During My recent demo of an Arcam DV79 (£1000)vs and Arcam Cd73(399) into a serious bit of kit showed the CD73 to be the equal or even slightly better than the DVD player. Get a listen the the Denon 2910 also as its a good unit for sound and PQ albeit a tad overwarm in the sound dept which may or may not suit.
