Anyone know of a site which will deliver to the UK. Wanting progressive output.
I thought that with a modchip & video mode CD, you could play US games along with any progressive modes they supported.
Did I misunderstand?
Yes, you can play US games but I didn't think the chip gave the progressive output.
Where do you get this video mode CD? Maybe that is what does the progressive bit.
If I'm wrong then I am a very happy bunny as I chipped mine several weeks ago.
Can anyone confirm. Thanks.
A chipped PAL X-box will not output any games (Pal or Ntsc) in full pro scan like a Usa box (I'm sure someone has already informed the masses of this on these forums).
The video mode selector CD just lets you change the output from Pal to Ntsc or tother way.
Well, in the thread "who want a 480P signal from a PAL Xbox?", Kevin Harris (PAL xbox owner) said:
Sorry guys looks like I dont need this cable anymore, I just modded my XBOX and used a video select disk to give me 480P.
I Fitted an Xtender modchip and used the enigmah video select disk version 2.
The disk boots and all you do is select NTSC.
Now when I enable 480P I dont get a blank screen and on my projector it says 480/60p mode and I can also see a big improvment in the picture quality.
If you mean one of the higher resolution PS modes, I didn't think there were any games available that supported them yet?
....and in the thread "Does European/PAL Xbox support progressive scan?", NeoBlade said:
Yeah if you chip the Xbox and use the video boot disk then you can have the display in prog scan.
I think the masses may be getting contradictory information
are very good and are doing a modded Jap limited edition XBox for $259+25 for chip. Japan has hi-def so there should be no probs on the output front. Far east based so you will got hit for VAT and Duty (approx 20%). They will help by marking down parcel for you.
www.lik-sang.com are good too.
Both US based and good.
For UK based people try
Thanks. Looks like Tronix is gonna get my order.
just to put the record straight.
A chipped UK Xbox will output the same progressive signal as a US machine if you use the video mode disk. The disk isn;t really a video mode disk, it changes the Xbox to a full US specced machine. The disk works on either enigmah or xtender chipped machines.
Just goes to show how universal Xboxes really are..
Thanks for that museumsteve, that's what I thought/hoped.
Why then, is everyone so keen to still get a US / Japanese XBox?
Well the price has dropped for a US/Japanese Xbox and you would be able to run in prog.scan without using a boot disk... Its the same for people using a Messiah or NEO4 for playing their import games on a PS2. Less hassle, just chuck in the DVD and play.
If you haven't got your Xbox connected permanently to a plasma/projector/compatible CRT that supports prog.scan then fair enough a boot disk option would be fine. If you plan to use prog.scan all the time though then it could be deemed as hassle.
Its just a matter of personal preference really.
Watch out for what chip you get if you want to use the video mode selector as the Enigmah can't handle the fact that an Xbox reboots every time you press the eject button.
So how would you boot the video mode selecter and then get a game to run in that mode if you have to press eject to switch the disk's?
Found a chart that shows what chips can do the eject trick and it ain't many. A few older versions (and a beta release) and three of the next gen ones. So watch what your buying if you want full pro scan via your UK Xbox.
Will UK Xbox games play in progressive scan on a US Xbox (chipped with the Enigmah chip)?
A short and sweet answer to make my 700th post
Not a problem. Managed to burn the Video select iso to a CDR-W yesterday and it works a treat. Even better, once you set it to NTSC it stays as NTSC until you change it again. Switch off, switch on, eject, load, whatever. It holds the setting. BTW, I have the Enigmah chip.
Now all I need is my Hi-Def pack and I can test it. At the moment I have the Advanced AV pack and am using the SCART connector. Picture has a lot of cross hatching when in NTSC mode. I am guessing that is because it needs a component output once set to NTSC. Anyone comment?
Also, when I set it to NTSC is it then automatically in progressive mode or is there something else I should do to activate prog scan?
Good show m8 Didn't know it kept it in memory.
As for the hatching on NTSC ????
I'm using an RGB scart and my picture looks awesome on both my TV's.
Isn't there a setting for video output on the Xbox setting menu?
You might find pro scan options there.
Now I can't wait to get my chip installed
Am I wrong in thinking the the UK Advanced AV lead is the same as the Hi-Def US lead?
No, they are not the same. The UK Advanced AV pack outputs RGB via a SCART connector whereas the Hi-Def kit provides component out via 3 x RCA connectors.
Hey allyh82, think I outbid you on the US XBox on ebay. Looks as though I may not need it as there is confusion as to whether a UK chipped box can output ps. If it can then the US XBox will be available. Just in case you are still looking.
once you get and plug in a di def pack your xbox will automatically detect the connection and should give you a new option to change your video mode e.g. 1080i, 480p etc.. (it will only show you the video options that your tv supports btw).
Separate names with a comma.
