Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Must not cost the earth
hmm not sure how you get two external drives to work in a RAID, if you go by USB it'll be slower (what type of raid)
Or you could get a dual bay NAS, slower but built in RAID.
Hiya mate and thanks for the reply, I'm not well up on this so may well be talking out of my hat...
I plan to use these drives on a Mac and just thought it would be as simple as attaching both the external drives and selecting them both and setting as RAID?
I'm currently using a WD MyBook 500GB yet would like to back this up also so thought going RAID would be a good fool proof option as I'd hate for the drive to fail.
Not so much RAID as a duplicated disk for backup then - bear in mind that you'll only get half the amount of space at the end either way.
Yeah thats fine a total of 500gb is fine for my needs. I thought that RAID was a system for copying to two separate drives at once?
Anyone have any drive recommendations?
You could get 2 x branded external USB drivces (Maxtor/Iomega etc), and use the backup software that comes with them to do a full backup from one drive to the other.
Or you could get an external enclosure that supports RAID 1 and put two drives in it - a better solution really but probably more £££
