If you only need it for Blu-ray and DVD playback, I recommend spending as little as possible. Spending more money is only really worth it if you want more features, eg iPlayer, 3D, SACD playback etc.
Get the cheapest branded player you can find (assuming you'd rather get them a branded player than a cheap-looking one - and besides, branded ones are getting cheaper anyway). There's no need to spend much more than £70 for something basic. If you want to spend your full budget of £100, this leaves enough money to buy them a few starter discs.
