Hey guys. Looking to get a new player.

Currently using an older LG which works just fine, but I guess newer players have made some improvements?

At the moment I'm looking at the new pioneer bdp 450 And new denon dbt 1713 ud

I live in Japan so the models we get here are likely different in at least name.

    Specs are usually same tho.

I want player that improves the image over my older one, so the reason I like the pioneer is because it has the QDEO chip.

But does it help improve the video? Or is it really just for DVD up scaling?

Spec wise it's very similar to the lx55 so if u have that, how does it compare to non QDEO players?

The denon doesn't advertise a particular chip but denons have always been good players.

Both have DVD Audio and SACD which I like.

The pioneer has 2 hdmis which is good since I'm not sure my amp supports 3D pass thru. (old amp from before 3D came along)

I don't want to have to buy a new amp just for 3D.

Any help or advice appreciated chaps!

    No one has any advice?

I've been looking at the oppo 93 and it pretty much does everything I want.

And best of all I can order it from Japan!

I may go for this but I wonder if oppo will release a newer player this year?
    Anyone heard anything?

I'm also wondering if we are going to start seeing up scaling blu ray players that take BDs to 2160p anytime soon?

I've already started seeing PJs and new displays that do 4k

So I guess before we see a new disc format for 4k/8k, we will likely see upscaled blu rays first.

I also heard Sony was planing to release the new spider man on a 4k blu ray disk. (current tech) it is after all just a bump in resolution and if the bd format can hold the data there no reason it won't work.

*Edit* after looking at the oppo 93 thread, I will most likely get that. But I have a few questions I hope you guys can answer (seeing as the oppo thread is 5 pages long with over 100 posts...)

I want to make mine (If I get it) multi region for DVD and Blu Ray.

So some info on doing that would be great! If I do get it, it will be a region A player from the US (seeing as I live in Japan which is region A too)

Sony BDP-S790? I believe the player's model number should be the same...

Thanks for the recommendation, looked at Sony jp web site but they don't have it here. They did have a newer 590 that looks nice but I don't think it can do what the oppo does.

The more i look at he oppo, the more I like it!

The marantz 7006 looks good too!

If anyone has more info on these players, feel free to share.

The corresponding threads are really long, so if you guys could summrize good/bad points, that would be good!

    Cheers.

Hi. I have to say I really liked the look of the Marantz 7006 when it was released and did in fact buy 1. However, the player would freeze with BD and so a replacement was provided by the suppling dealing but unfortunately the problem persisted. This put me off completely as so I went for my second choice at the time which was the Cambridge Audio 751 and have to say I'm glad I did. With the short timeI had to compare the units the 751 appeared to give a better overall picture than the 7006 and also the the 751 is region free for DVD's.

How key is analogue audio output ?

The CA 751 Azure and Oppo 93/95 share the same digital platform i.e. same primary board for decoding audio/video and video post processing. The CA 651 and 93 are essentially the same product inside beyond cosmetic differences. The 95 and 751 differ in terms of the design of their analogue output stage and the PSU used for analogue output.

It appears the Oppo and CA are manufactured by the same company - GUANGDONG OPPO MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATIONS CORP LTD

    AZSQ.E222192 - Audio/Video Apparatus

Product based on MediaTek and QDEO "may" not offer the same performance level in all video areas. I've no first hand experience of this Pioneer product but this review suggests it may not perform certain video function as well as other products based on the same SoC/post processor.

    @ Avi

I've one of the Guangdong players listed - and also recommend a Cambridge Audio player to AML - but am unaware of the BDP-103. Is there a new player in town that I've missed?

Intresting to hear a lot of these players share the same boards!

Analogue is only somewhat important since the dac in my amp will probably do a better job than any player.

Still, it's nice to have the option.

Like I said, the oppo 93 is my first choice right now. Good price and does everything.

Only thing I'm worried abouot is someone suddenly releasing an up scaling player that upscaled to 2160p!

But since I don't have a 4k Telly yet, it doesn't really matter.

Denon just released a newer mid range player too! DBT 3313UD
I don't think it has QDEO tho.

Analogue output is the difference you pay for between the Oppo 95/CA 751 and the 93/651 models.

The Marvell 88DE2750 processor used in the above can interpolate to 4kx2k @24p. How likely this is to be software activated update in the current models I wouldn't like to say or what benefit it will provide.

I don't know much about the Denon 3313 but earlier mid models used ABT(SI) post processing solutions. If this is still the case and the implementation is similar issues with PAL DVD film performance could be a concern.

    Thanks for all the info!
Would be sweet if they did release an update that made QDEO players 4K capable.
I think ill invest in the oppo 93!

It will do nicely until there is a change in the format/standard.

BTW, I looked at the Cambridge audio players but are too expensive in Japan due to them having a dealer here.

(Whenever a product comes to Japan from overseas we get rewarded with prices that are double or even triple what they would cost normally )

    Thanks for the help guys!

one last thing, Is there someone i can pm about making the oppo mr?

Was about to order an oppo but now they are out of stock! Only refurbished players.. Not sure if I should get one of those or wait for more stock. There's a chance they could be preparing a new model too I guess.

Or just get one from the above link! Do want mr for bd and DVD
