Ive just bought a 6.1 onkyo Av reviver and amp and i was looking for a good quality, preferbly quite cheap set of 6.1 speakers to go with it, either that or a 5.1 speaker package that can be easily expanded to a 6.1. any suggestions?

Don't know what your budget is for the speakers, but I have a 5.1 speaker package for sale.

    2x definitive technology bp10
    2x definitive technology bp2x
    1x definitive technology clr2002
    1x rel strata subwoofer

The speakers are up for £850, make me an offer if you're interested. These speakers are great quality, trust me.

Can be upgraded to a 6.1 system, although there is limited 6.1 material available on dvd and the gains of the extra speaker are minimal anyway.

I agree with the lack of 6.1 stuff on cd but there a a few superb exmaples like the LOTR series and Blade 2 (why did blade 3 go so wrong ??) but with the advent of Dolby prologic 2x everything can be 6.1 :D

Ok, the the 6.1 examples you mentioned are good.

Although pro-logic II sounds good, its not a genuine 6.1 channels of sound. You only really benefit if the source is recorded in 6.1.

5.1 and lower scaled up to 6.1 have no real gains.

No I agree its just a way of scaling 2 channels up to 5.1(or more with 2x)

    and
This is where we have to agree to disagree. I run a 7 speaker setup with my 1400 and always use DPL2x with 5.1 and stereo (non music I prefer that in stereo) sources and notice and increase in sound and depth with sources. One of the best examples is the dodging bullets scene in the Matrix. Recorded in 5.1 :dd: I find with PL2x it increase the surround field and depth of the bullets as they fly over your head and arround the room

I always run 5.1 in either dolby digital or thx, never really use any of the other settings, except DTS (matrix 6.1 and ES 6.1 when appropriate).

Ok fair enough, if it sounds better to you, who I am to say otherwise.

What do you think of DTS Neo?

I actually prefere it to dolbly pl2 for TV watching. I feel its a little more imersive with the surround steering. Again my personal preference.

    Yourself?
Just out of interest what kit are you using Petey?

Yeah, I was quite impressed DTS neo, sounded to me like it had a higher freqency range than pro-logic as everything sounds more open and clean. Only really use it for 2.0 channel and lower though.

I use a Denon AVC-A1SE, Denon DVD2200 and Definitive Technology Speakers. I know my amp doesn't have pro-logic II, but experience with this has been on my brothers setup. Canton Speakers, Denon Amp and DVD.
