    Hi.
I came across this forum yesterday through Google and have since then been reading many of the very informative posts.

Anyway, I am looking to buy a plasma tv and initially thought that I would get a Samsung P425SH which is retailing for about £900. Reading the posts here made me think that I should perhaps get a Panasonic panel instead. So, Richersounds are currently selling the TH42PWD7 for £900 and the TH42PWD8 for £1000 + £85 for a wall bracket and £50 or so for a scart input box?

    Questions:

    1. What difference is there between the PWD7 and PWD8? I went to Richersounds today and they had the PWD8 on demo which looked ok, but probably and understandably inferior to the £2k screens next to it.

    2. Richersounds are also selling the TH42PE50 for £1200. Now does this TV share the same panel as the other two panels? What I of course thought is that by the time I add the wall bracket and input boxes, I will be near the price of the TV anyway, so might as well buy the TV????

    3. I also went to another shop (Gultronics in Holborn - not recommended btw for reasons I will not mention) where they had the first Samsung screen on display. The colours on the Samsung appeared to be worse than the Panasonic but unfortunately I did not see the Samsung and Panasonic screens side by side. Anyone made a comparison between the two? Now the Samsung is like 25% less than the Panasonic which of course is something to think about.

    4. Anything else you feel I should consider near the £1k mark?

Any advice or recommendations will be fully appreciated.

There are two schools of thought, some prefer the hassle free option of TV type plasma some prefer panel display ie all Money technology is spent on the panel.

I went the TV route and i dont regret it one bit but its your decision, i had partner and kids to consider ie ease of use they can just turn the thing on and then go into another room to chat :rotfl:

So i will recommend mine , another consideration has it got to be Hd or SD

Take your time and shortlist then make sure you demo them at a specialist rather than comet/currys store

    regards

    Hi
Think I'm in the same boat as you. I've been looking at trillions of web pages since the weekend & also found this forum via Google.

Its really driving me nuts because every time I think I've found a decent 42" set, a read another review that says its no good! AARRGGHHH !!

"The 42PX4DV is hugely impressive, and
    proves that low-resolution screens aren’t
yet redundant. Not everyone will want a set
    that can handle HD"

Doesn't that make it not so good ? I dunno, I'm just a learner! LOL

According to the spec shown this set has an HDMI input so it will take an HD picture and down convert it.
I don't know how good the LG is, but if it down converts an HD image as well as my Panny SD Plasma prepare to be amazed at how good HD material looks on an SD screen

I'm a bit surprised the PWD8 looked noticeably worse than the 2K screens next to it - I expect they were being fed some sort of HD feed? What was the PWD8 showing?

The SD panels were playing Garfield and the PWD8 was the best of them. The HD panels were playing Star Wars. Think it was a ploy?
