i currently have a Samsung N7332BDX LCD but want to upgrade it because it only has a contrast ratio of 6000:1.

Ideally i want a 42" FULL HD LCD with contrast ratio of 20000:1 or higher. It will be connected to my Pioneer LX50 Amp, Pioneer DVR-550HXS Recorder and Sky HD.

    Anyone got any suggestion?

If you are wanting deeper black levels then you will be better off with Plasma. I have done some research and apparently the human eye can only perceive upto 800:1 and anything higher is unnoticable.

Might I suggest a Panasonic or Pioneer Plasma. There is a risk of screen burn but if your careful it shouldnt be a problem.

Richer Sounds have good deals on these plasma tvs so might be worth a look at.

if i was gonna buy a Plasma it would only be a Pioneer Kuro.

If i choose to get an LCD ideally i want a Samsung as i'm pretty happy with my current LCD but just want a bigger size now.

But i cant decide between them :-(

    Hi,

    To stick with Samsung gives you the following choices;

    37M87BD,3 hdmi contrast ratio 15000.1 with the super clear panel,around £625 +

    40M87BD as above around £725

40F86 as above with 100hz around the £1100 mark

50F96 with the new led backlight, £1800ish

on the Plasma side the Ps42Q97 has got to be the absolute bargain at about £700.

I will make it quite unashamedly clear again, that I am a big fan of Samsung products especially the Lcd range,so I am biased and proud of it.

    The choice,obviously is yours.

Information given on those Samsungs is incorrect.

LE37M87 does NOT have a Super Clear Panel and as such the contrast ratio is 10000:1

LE40M87 has a Super Clear Panel and contrast of 15000:1 and much better black level.

I wouldn't get to hung up on contrast ratio's.

Most manufactures quote these high numbers when dynamic contrast is applied and this can do some horrible things to the picture quality.

Its a bit like the good old days of car Hi-Fi. A stereo with 5000 wats of power does not mean it will sound any good.

There are lots of elements that go into producing a good picture, contrast ratio is just one of them.
