    Hi all,
I'm currently looking at buying a new home theatre setup.
Unfortunately I'm pretty much stuck on speaker selection (we have a new 36'' Philips and the wife won't let me keep my Mission Floorstanders etc). So it's got to be sattellites (did I spell that right?). I'm up for a new amp as well, so here's what I've tentatively picked out (given my budget is £1000 to £1200 max).

SONY STRDB1080 or YAMAHA RXV630RDS amp (I'm leaning towards the Yamaha).
    KEF KHT2005 Speaker package.

One other thing, the amp has to be silver (the wife stipulated that too)

I'm also curious about the AEGOP5 package too, seen great reviews, just wondered how much worse / better this might be than the above considering it's price (I realise there's no Pro Logic II with this).

Music is not something we'd listen to via any of my suggestions, it's just for Home Cinema.

    Many Thanks for any suggestions.

Does the Aegop5 deliver a good bass, I look at the size of the speakers and say to myself they couldn't possibly, could they ?

My father is also looking at getting a new home theatre setup and he has a small living room, so I'm tempted to suggest this setup for him.

My only concern is that I have a rather odd shaped lounge, it's about 24' by 18'. So I'm concerned whether the AegoP5 would delivery enough punch ?

Many thanks for your reply :)

Just a word of warning: the Yamaha is not silver, it is actually Titanium in colour, so you may get the wife's back up

Would be worth demoing the B+W VM1's, since these seem to have knocked the KEF KHT2005 off their pedastal....
    B + W Speakers

And the Sony AMP looks better then the Yammy 630 from a 'wife' Point of View....

I would demo them if I were you, If the Yamaha to you sounds a lot better it may be better compromising on the colour...

i find the base very good and alot of people who have heard/seen the aego 5 in action have said it packs a punch,
on another point the dialogue(not sure how to spell that) voices are very good from the center channel, this is where some of the other ones i heard let me down
its very good for an all in price of £500
you get 3 paira of phono imputs
    1 coaxial
    1 optical
    no sacd imput though

Well, my Dad is going to go for the Aegop5 :)

I'm still undecided, obviously demo's are in order. Can anyone tell me a price or best place to buy the B&W V1's ?

They look real nice and the wife said, they are asthetically pleasing.

i've also got a similar decision to make

i'm undecided between the sony and the yamaha

looks wise the sony wins but i thikn the yam will be a better replacement soundwise for my old yam dsp a590 dpl amp

plus my g/f would prefer the sony i think

on the speaker side i'm going to demo the mission fs1's next week - again g/f likes the look of them but i want to listen to how they sound first

those B&W's look fantastic but i thikn they're a little too pricey at the mo - hopefully the shop will have the B&W's so i can listen to those too next week

does anyone know if the B&W speaker wire is like the mission fs1 setup (ie speakers are connected to sub and not to amp)

    thanks

    neil

I would get the HiFi set up you want and change the wife.

Women have no right to interfere in the quest for quality sound.

I suppose I'm lucky in that my lady is only interested in the results, rather than what it looks like...

And she loves DTS flying around the room.

But Hell, that's why she's my partner and I love her...
