Long Covid - Anybody Aware?

So this weekend ended up being fun, I was rushed into Basingstoke hospital where it was confirmed I had suffered a minor cardiac event, stabbing pains in my chest that went on and pain in my left arm.

A night on the ward and numerous blood tests and x-rays later and we know absolutely nothing other than the event occurred, the tests showed no elevated enzymes in my blood.

They will now contact my Drs to advise on what the next steps should be going forward.

This may well be the first time in my life I actually thought I was going to die, and people still doubt the damage covid can do :(

Here we are, well over a a week later and my Dr still has not called me or sent me any information via email or private messages, no wonder people feel let down by their gps when even basic human kindness is too much effort.

I think your GP is terrible!!

Can you not try and ask for another one who might be slightly better?

I'd be so upset if that were me.

Thanks WeeScottishLass, I stayed loyal as it seemd to me she had been a very good Dr, she had helped me with the severe depression when my mum and both my dogs passed in less than eight months and alsways seemed to be on my side, but then she really had very little to actually do before, Now I want and need her help she is seriously lacking.

I just realised that in the ten months she has known about my condition she has done exacly one x-ray. two blood sample tests and arranged for a holter top to be fitted.

Except she did not arrange it, between her and the cardiologist they actually messed it up and despite numerous calls to the cardiology department I was told to be patient, until finally a lovely lady actually looked for me and found neither side had marked it with any priority or even released it for booking, that wasted two months.

The holter top was for just 24 hours and again despite me pointing out that travel to get it fitted would wipe me out anyway she dismissed my concern and told me it would provide information anyway, what happened afterwards oh yes I had a minor heart attack and she has not even replied to my messages, now I am no longer sure she cares and will be having very harsh words on Monday.

Funnily enough the emergency visit saw me have x-rays and more blood tests than my Dr could be bothered to do.

Even if this is a result of her being overburdened and worn down there is nothing wrong with looking for someone who will help you.
One thought - when you talk to another practice maybe explain the reason for moving is that your current practice is too overloaded to support you.

Hmmmmm, well I don't blame you for feeling disappointed and annoyed.

Particularly when the symptoms you are having are so overwhelming and scary and are affecting you so much.

I hope you manage to get somewhere tomorrow or can at least start the process to find someone who can give you the reassurance and help you need.

Hallejulah!

My Dr has called me today to say she has booked me onto the new Long Covid clinic being set up in Royal Berkshire Reading, although she has no idea how long the waiting list will be yet, but this is huge progress and makes me feel a hell of a lot better mentally now.

Excellent news!! That must be such a relief!!

You have no idea just how much relief, I was really starting to get very low recently
It really makes all the difference in the world to feel like you are being listened to and having a Dr to trust.

So I'm delighted for you.

Perhaps she was just busy and overloaded with things.

Importantly you are finally on the right track to hopefully being looked after and getting the right support with what seems to be a really complex recovery process.

Me? Go over the top? 🤪

I highly suspect that number will keep growing.

Patients with ongoing Covid symptoms should be referred to specialist clinics as early as four weeks after they develop the illness, according to the first official guidelines on the management of “long Covid”

They stress that most people’s symptoms resolve within 12 weeks. However, for a sizeable minority of people, symptoms can persist or new ones can develop and worsen and have a continuing detrimental impact on people’s quality of life.

'Long Covid' guidance urges referral to UK clinics after four weeks

Two athletes who will have been in peak condition.

"That long-term Covid is something which you wouldn't think possible in young, fit, athletes. Unfortunately, it is so.

"They go for a walk for half an hour and then they want to go back to bed. It's as brutal as that. The fatigue is the one thing that has hit them all. For two of them, it's beyond that. We hope there's light at the end of the tunnel, but some are finding it a struggle."

I have never been as fit as a modern footballer, but even today I am so very tired and yet unable to sleep after having bloods done yesterday :(

Sadly Steve Bruce is right, covid does not care who you are, how old you are or what gender you are.

In the summer of this year I was found regular 5k runs and strength training 3 times a week and at 43 years old was in pretty good shape.
Caught corona in middle of September but by the time I got tested it was negative.
Having corona itself was no great shakes, just like a cold but then I got hit in the recovery.
After a week I called the hotline and answered all their questions which seemed to be around blood pressure, heart, brain and diabetes conditions.
Woman then made an emergency referral to my gp who called me within the hour.
After about 20 minutes on the phone to him I was referred directly to the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic because he thought I'd had a heart attack.
No heart attack but the consultant started I had had corona, despite the negative test result. This was around the beginning of October and he told me them that there was at that point three different strains of corona and the test only tested for one of them.
I asked about the anti body test and he did it was so unreliable that the medical body he was part of was trying to get it removed as an option for the public at large.
He suggested I had damage to my lungs from the covid.
My symptoms from out of nowhere were shortness of breath, couldn't walk 10 minutes without have to stop to try to catch my breath, chest pain, inability to get deep breaths in, migraines, leg pain so bad that it woke me up during the night, real bad fatigue which meant I works have to knap during the day (which I normally never do).
It's now a few months down the line and I am better but no where near where I was. Still can't run but I'm doing some bodyweight training again but when I first started, my previous warm up totally wiped me out but now I'm up to about 15 minutes, including 60s rest periods.

This is no joke, I've never known anything like it and I worry that I'll never get back to where I was.

I hope you continue to improve.

And you get idiots claiming they're fit and well so there's no need for them to have the vaccine. Braindead behaviour.

Hope you get back to where you were mate asap.

It's certainly been an eye opener for me.

Sorry to hear but good that you are making progress, it is only since having this bloody thing that I have realised just how much I took being able to have a walk as a right, that my health was almost a given, I've never felt so humbled by my own body letting me down :(
