hi, i have been looking for some 5.1 speakers for my bedroom setup after seeing 100s or excellent reviews for the z5500 speakers system i now have my heart set on them.
the problem i have just realised is that the connections on the z5500 are,
-6 channel direct PC input (most built-in pc sound cards)
-digital optical input (toslink)
-digital coaxial.
i have a standard xbox 360, a bt vision box and a 42" panasonic viera tv th-42pe50b but none of them have optical or coaxial digital connections !
can anyone think of a way to connect all this up so i can play the bt vision box and standard 360 through the z5500 speakers.
all help will be great but try not to get to complicated because i know absolutely nothing about digital connections, i have never used them.

anyone help ?
ideally i think i need 1 female phono to coaxial connector and a phono to optical connector.
do such things exist ? will they make the stereo sound of phono into digital sound so i get true surround sound from the z5500 ?

is it possible ?
i have the sound from the 360 and bt vision running through a sony strdb940 av amplifier through phono connections but i dont beleive i can get true 5.1 surround sound from the phono connections.
is there anyway i can connect the z5500 to my av amp to get true 5.1 surround sound from my standard xbox 360 and the bt vision box ?

th bt vision has 1 svideo and 2 sdpif sockets which seems to be 2 different size and shape ports.
the xbox 360 seems to have a sdpif digital port on the back of the av lead also, can these 2 sdpif sockets be connected to the z5500 at the same time or seperately ? if connected will they produce genuine 5.1 surround sound ?
why does the sdpif connector on the bt vision box have 2 connectors but only 1 sdpif connector on the standard xbox s60.
all 3 sdpif connectors look different ! my head is spinning !

i think i have figured it out !
the 360 has a optical out on the av lead and the bt vision box has a optical out.
so i will buy 3 optical leads and connect the xbox and the btvision to a splitter and the optical lead from the splitter to the optical out on the z5500.

i have another idea, instead of a splitter i can get a 3.5mm to toslink adapter, then i only need to buy 2 optical leads and no need for switching between the two !

does splitting a connection not lose quality?

Xbox 360 has optical..? Im pretty sure mine does. You shoulda got a seperates system tbh, the z-5500 are more "computer speakers" Whereas a seperates system with a decent receiver will give you a much wider range of connectivity.
