Logitech Harmony 885 and XP MCE

Hi all

Just wanted to pick your brains - I'm thinking of buying a logitech harmony 885 and I was wondering if it would replace the remote for my media centre pc (Sony XL100).

I am not really fussed about recording from the tv with it, as long as it controls the 'my videos, my music etc' part of the media centre.

If the remote for your Sony PC is infrared, the Harmony can replace it. If you're not sure, have a look at the front of the remote. If it's got an LED sticking out, then it's infrared.
If you want to double check, try looking at the front of the remote using a digital camera (on the screen, not through the viewfinder, as it may be an optical viewfinder). Press and hold a button on the remote. If it's infrared, you'll see a glow on your camera.

If you can't see the glow, the it's an RF (radio frequency) remote, and the Harmony can't copy those - you'll need to buy an IR receiver, then the Harmony will work.

Wow, I never knew that, that's going to keep me entertained for hours!

I have now purchased one of these remotes, and had a hell of a struggle to set it up, but after speaking to Logitech Harmony customer support (based in Canada - don't worry its a freephone number!!!!) it now works like a dream

I wouldn't hesitate recommending buying one of these.
