I've finally decided after many weeks looking around for a tv and looking at this forum to buy a Loewe Xelos x5381.

Can anybody recommend any dealers around the north west and also what is cheapest price for this tv?

The cheapest i've found so far is through empire direct, but after reading a number horror stories i'ld rather get it a proper dealer and not though the internet.

    Thanks

    Yeah JS.

Went to Debenhams this afternoon and have seen it at that price as well. But they don't for some reason do the tv in arctic colour which is what I want.

I also noticed that there version used the Q2400 chassis where as there website states the Q2500 used as in the some of the aconda series.

Has anyone else found this cheaper?

    Stan..

House of Fraser or John Lewis seem to have favourable reports. They are supposed to offer excellent customer service and will also price match any shop in the UK. There is a "cheap" shop in your area that specialises in mail order with very good prices. I would strongly advise you not to buy mail order or from this shop as I've just had an horrendous experience.
HofF or JL will match this shops price and may include a 5 year warranty. I think they may also let you swap the set after so many days if you don't like it.

    Phil,

I spoke to TV & Video Direct and they gave me a price for a Loewe Xelos for £1375 including 5 year Warranty and the stand.

So a local dealer just up the read price matched this and I now have to wait a month because i'm wanting this tv with a Q2500 chassis.

Now I know Debenhams price maybe slightly cheaper, but they didn't do this tv in platinum for which I want and of course I want the never chassis model with extra features.

Hi Stanley, its worth the wait I think for the newer chassis and the colour you want, and a month aint that long :)

Got a 5381ZWG in February 2001 from Empiredirect for a couple of pounds over £900 (was £902 i think, much cheaper than anybody else at the time)... however they have since changed the price several times. Had the VGA board installed by Jeffries a few months afterwards. Great TV :)

    Blast!....

I actually got the tv cheaper than empire direct advertised for £950 but I haven't seen this tv any cheaper. Anyway i'ld much rather buy local than mail order.

How much was the vga card?? I was thinking of also having this installed, but one place quoted £400 pounds for this which is a tad expensive me thinks...

If you get the VGA card at the same time as the TV they will install it in the factory and will only cost you 50 pounds. Most online sellers dont give this option, so i had to get one installed after it left the factory. Jeffries charged me 50 pounds for the kit and 50 pounds to install it. The kit comes with full installation instructions, and you could easily do it yourself. However this would void your warrantee.

Jeffries came to my house, about 14 miles from their shop in portsmouth, to fit the unit. Took the guy about 40 minutes, though most of that time was taking the case off and putting it back on :)

Unit works very well, have my dreamcast plugged into it most of the time.

    hmmm...

I'm actually waiting for the tv to be delivered from Germany because i'm wanting it with the Q2500 chassis. So I may ask my local dealer so have this installed. But my pc already has an svideo out so I can plug this in. I not to sure whether this is worth it. Do you have the Q2500 chassis.

On a totally different subject. Do you have your tv with the cheese grater stand??

I've been asking people this because i'm wanting a piece of kit to operate my dvd, video and cable box whilst being in the cabinet without the door being open.

I got the TV in Feb 2001, so there was no 2500 chasis then. However it has whatever was the latest chasis at the time. It takes all those medi-whatever upgrades (satellite, DVB, AC3 etc etc...).

I dont have the Loewe stand as I thought it was :

    a) over priced
    b) bad technical design
    c) looks silly

I got a nice stand from Ikea for 50 pounds with a glass front.

VGA is a HUGE improvement over S-video... in fact its a HUGE improvement over RGB scart. I have not tried, and dont know for sure it works, the component input on AV3... but I cant see how it can be better than VGA...

For the sake of 50 pounds I would have the VGA put in.

Yeah maybe...but at the moment thats not really important to me using my pc through the telly. But then again things may change...

I agree about the stand it being overpriced. The one i'm getting will cost me £300...but it does go with the tv and looks nice!!
