Loewe compose 40” dr+

I am not good at writing reviews but I thought there is a lack of loewe info on the web and maybe this is of some use to someone .

I took delivery of the tv on Wednesday and fitted the wall mount on Saturday.
The speaker are sold separate on this tv you can choose from 2 speaker stereo or 3 speakers or the full 5.1 as the tv has a Dolby digital receiver built in .

I went for the stereo version .you can have the speaker mounted on the tv or on the wall all the mounts and fixing are included in the speaker package . plenty of speaker cable supplied and the speaker are designed by Bose so I could not wait to get them mounted.

i have put the spheros r37 wall mount on ebay as this is not needed anymore.the compose comes with it own wall brackets

First I laid the tv on it face and was amazed to see just how many connection there are .i don't think there was anything that it didn't have. even 2 x hdmi digital in/out etc .

The remote control looked awesome a solid feel and well designed buttons I think a step up from the spheros r37. it also can control all the other loewe equipment like there audio and the revolving motorised TV stand ( optional extra )

the other loewe tvs i have all came with a nice black box full of goodies like cleaning equipment ,white cloth gloves etc but this one didnt come with the box shame i thought it was a nice touch ..but still all the bits are packed well

The wall mount are supplied unlike the optional wm53 wall mount which was extra for the spheros
There are two mounts 360 mm apart and the tv has three angle settings (tilting down ) for you viewing pleasure you hook the tv on the mounts and angle the bottom 30 deg .and then slide back so that it cant be knocked of the wall .

I mounted the TV with the speakers separate but then decided to fit them to the tv and fill in the wall space that I had made for the spheros I think it looks better .its nice to see the stainless running along the top and bottom of the tv. and maching speakers .

The tv is not fitted with a freeview epg . I think loewe are working on this for England and it can be installed in the expansion slot .i run a top field anyway so it wasn't a problem it has got a massive hard drive tho
The button at the bottom of the tv glows red for recording and white when hard drive is not in use and green when you are playing back recordings.

After mounting it the time had come to get it up and running
I am using the ARCAM FMJ 139 Nordost hdmi
Top field 5800
Cctv in the avs phono
Usb for usb stick
Nordost scart
Svhs for parasound settings

I do love the USB connection you just insert your USB stick full of photos and it brings up the photos in the ASSIST MENU . This is great with slide shows. also menu for speed setting/ resizing etc
The picture are amazing on the Loewe very clear and sharp .i nice touch and a bonus that I didn't no about

After running the free view and doing some setting changes in the menu MY EYES WENT TO HEAVEN :) amazing wow I could not believe it . I have had 6 lcd tvs and this is the first one ever not to pixel late and go blocky on a terrestrial signal it was amazingly smoothing and yet sharp and the colours were great .
After finishing jumping up and down and shouting to the missis ( hay look at this picture ) come back look at this picture !! And this is just a tv picture ..it was time to fire up the arcam dvd player.
I put on casino royal then gladiator the more and more and more lol.
I could not believe the picture and to watch it in 1080p at 50hz was truly awesome
Its still early days with the tv but this is an amazing set with everything you need .and I don't get the fmj hdmi problems anymore .

Still got to plug the pc in and play with the menus some more but im a happy bunny
If you like to play with menus then this is the tv for you .i am still finding new ones 4 days on .

The sound it also great as loewe owners out there will no there .more than enough bass and treble and amazing how load they can go 

all the pictures are of tv broadcast not dvd ill try and get some dvd ones done soon..

I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you .hope this helps I will add stuff as I find it with the set
Many thanks

Hi leon,
thanks for posting your initial thoughts.
When you have really got some hours of viewing logged up,I wonder if you could post your opinion on how the Compose copes with the common drawbacks of an LCD Panel, viz
Black levels
Motion handling,and
Backlight bleed.
Thanks.

hi the tv looks great, just wanted to know where you brought it from, and also where did you sell your other loewe tvs, because i brought i spheros r37 from harrods in may, had loads problems displaying blu ray and harrods first said they would sort it out dont worry, but after months of waiting for them to get the answer to what was causing the probelms they now think it is in all they tvs, so they will not swap it or give me a refund. i am very ****** off so i want to sell the spheros and get a compose but not from harrods.

doctorrockit if you private massage me i will tell you how i got hold of one and i had problems with my spheros r37 as well .. i may be able to help you with the trouble you are having with loewe ..:)

Nice review!

I'm not too keen on the plasma-esque screen, which are notrious for reflections unlike normal LCDs.

You might be glad of the glass cover if you have toddlers that could poke it with their fingers or worse.

i had a similar experience with an indvidual - harrods were hopelessly incompetent , sending me a euro model not uk , wrong side panels etc etc and i ended up getting a refunding and buying a sharp from john lewis

plus i found the loewe to be overhyped , poor over processed picture and truly awful interface with the most stupid remote control i've ever used ( that silly little button in the middle )

thanks for that, i have had the tv for about 4 months but it just not working right when displaying blu ray, or 1080p stuff lots of flickering on trees and stuff. harrods said at firt that none of their tv did it so they kept saying we will talk to germany and get back to you, this went on and on etc, now they say that their tvs do the same and this is due to blu ray being new tech etc, but on my dads 1080p plasma no problems and the same on my friends sony 1080p set. Anyway i paid with credit card so i dont know what i can do. I have put in two complants one with harrods and one with loewe still not one has got back to me, i am very ****** off by it all easily the worst service i have ever had!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope the info was of some use .. doc
now that linnsight have been taken over by loewe and the new staff they have .we should should see some better customer service . its only a few people in the chain making the service bad in england with the shake up that is happening i hope to see the service keeping up with the product :smashin:

some black levels ..camera pic quality not so great .. im still very pleased with the performance so far by far the best loewe i had .. ill try and take some pics in the evening without all the excess light

Thanks for this thread, there certainly isn't much talk about Loeve on the web.

I was sceptical about the PQ of LCD (and Plasma for that matter), but bought the 26" Individual Compose for the Bedroom as it looked good - both the picture and TV itself. I am now becoming more convinced that the technology is here and I was finally thinking of replacing the venerable Panasonic CRT in the lounge ... the 40" Compose or Individual Select seemed to be options.

But there seems to be little point in investing in this Full HD technology unless Blu-Ray actually works. So does anyone know if this Blu-Ray problem is an issue will all their Full-HD TVs or just certain ones?

And does anyone know the true difference between the various 40" models: the Compose, Individual Select and the Spheros; or is it simply a difference in the chassis? The Harrods guy said that the Spheros and the new 40" Individual Select are basically the same TV.

Leon

How are the blacks on this set? Does it crush blacks?

Any motion smearing?

In other words: can we ditch our CRT's yet:D

PS have you noticed any issues with Blu Ray / HD-DVD ?

hello
well i have found the blacks are black on this tv .. i have been very tough with this tv and i cant fault the black in any way .. black is black

As for the motion bluring when you set the tv to "auto dimmer" and dnc on medium there is no motion blur at all even on football games fast movies wild life shots and water motion .. water motion on the last set was like watching square blocks .. but on this one its crystal clear ..

i think this is the first tv i have seen that makes normal freeview/ pictures look stunning .AND WHEN YOU RUN 1080P through it then you are in heaven ..its sharp ,bright acurate and very 3d like ..

there is a button called DMM reduces jolt ..but in english that means it sort of turns into a 3d picture the moving objects are made to stand out from the back ground i dont no how they do this but on some programs ( i.e) wild life then its truly amazing ..

i have not tried blu ray or hd dvd through the tv as i am sticking with the fmj 139 upscaled until the bigger boys sort themselves out ..already seen 3 generations of players in one year i think they must think we are muggs lol :thumbsdow

do i think its worth the money hmm yes £4000 is alot but i would say this is the best lcd 40" out there at this time and its also looks great even when its switched of :D worth every penny and more ..

i could not say that about my spheros £3500 and nothing but a pain but that looked good switched of but terrible when swiched on .:rotfl:... but i would think the new r37 with its new hd insides would be nice as well ..

some show room pics ..

Thanks Leon

Its certainly the most stupendous TV in the world turned off and, judging by the reviews, has the video circuitary to boot.

Would be nice to here comments from owners of the 40 or 46 inch model regarding how glorious BLU ray and HD-DVD look on this TV.

Theres a 52 inch 100 Hz model coming out soon for those keen on a spare mortgage !

its been a few weeks now and no problems so far we are going through our sd dvd one by one and they look amazing ..better than ever

hi leon i know this thread was done along time ago but i would like to thank you on sharing some nice pictures and insight on your tv. i have always liked loewe and b&0 and have always wanted one as i see a different type of picture on a loewe and b&0 compared to other brands of tv and the style aswell as the attention to detail and the craftmanship. i was really interested in your review as its hard to find pretty indepth reviews online about this tv and was very glad to read your thoughts about the performance of it. hope you continue to get plenty of enjoyment from this tv and feel free to post more pictures if you want as i enjoyed looking at every single one. you also have an amazing home cinema to take care mate.:smashin:
