Hi all

So my background was car hifi and security for 20 years with many awards and and magazine features.

But when I moved in with my now wife I changed my career, still in the motor industry but I missed my music so much I moved to 2 channel hifi.

The system was a full audio note hand made valve amplifier and valve CD player this sounded amazing, but once again my career changed again and I went back to engineering and the hifi took a big back seat so I decided to sell it all, I was a bit gutted but hey ho time to move on.

Then the dreaded lock down happened when it came to the second lock down I realised that I have never taken my daughter to the cinema and we all missed watching movies together.

So I decided to start with a small set up, sound bar and sub, then got rid of that fast.

I started to do some research and went for the denon avr 2700 which Im very happy with and a canton movie 75 again I had to get rid of the speakers they just wasn’t doing it for me. So more research thank you to the Av forum I have ended up with the jamo thx d 500 and love them.

System details

Denon avr 2700

Xbox one

Philips 70 inch ambi light tv

Jamo d 500 lcr and surrounds

Dali alteco front heights

Svs sb 2000 pro rear

Behringer mx1000 d

Le voice x2 8 inch sub fronts

All custom speaker cables all cut to the same length for equal power supply.

Custom built power distribution and power cables.

Full case grounding system

As you can see the front of the room has gone through a few changes.

The new cabinet has a allowed me to bring the lcr all at ear level and on access to the mlp.

The rest of the space is for my wife’s movie themed Lego collection.

The alteco front heights are a bit squeezed in due to the stair case but still sound good.

The side surrounds are just above head height but again I was slightly governed due to the fused spur fitted and as I rent my house I can’t move it.

Current photos of the new build.
Every thing is fully glued and screwed to be as solid as possible due to the 2 front 8 inch subs, dynamat has also been added to help the quieten things down.

Today I built the frames to be acoustically trimmed in a similar colour to match the final paint finish.
You won’t be able to see the from lcr and subs but can easily moved for service and amp adjustment.

Added the front subs this weekend only to find out my brand new behringer amp has a fault straight out of the box. And the trim for the sub box is the wrong colour.

my Phillips tv has developed a fault on the screen and turns out i still have warranty, so it has been sent of for inspection.
This has allowed me to finish the rubbing down of the cabinet and prep the wall to paint again.

Moved the front heights and moved them to the side wall as close to atmos specs as I can’t get them without mounting them on the ceiling.

Final coat added today and very happy with the finish. The back walls will be sprayed with grey stone effect paint as soon as it’s back in stock and the grill cloth has been ordered.

Decided to go down the hover boss road, I decided I didn’t want to go down the inner tube route for the pure fact of having to monitor the pressures.
I have read and seen lots of people have had good results with tennis balls. This is a cantilever baffle board because the seats are electric and the motors are in the way.
The board is just over 1 inch thick with 2 layers of osb board clued and screwed for its density then a 3rd layer of half inch ply again clued and screwed for finishing and painted in black.
I have to say I’m very impressed and it adds so much more to the overall experience to the film.
