Living / Dining Room - First HT Setup

Ok, about 80% of the way now.

First note about going down this AV rabbit hole, why do we get so used to better quality so quickly?!

At first it sounded amazing (it still does) but sitting with my wife the other night, she said "This sounds the same as the TV did really?" So I swapped the source back to TV and holy moly it sounded like an iPhone speaker in a toilet. She laughed at how much worse the TV speakers are, but it did make me realise it won't be long before I start upgrading!

I pre-ran cables for rear speakers and a sub, I will definitely be getting some soon. I'm kinda torn, do I get 2 x MASS gen2's for rears or try to convince the wife to let me use the bronze 50's as rears and get some bigger fronts? The latter may be a tough sell, especially if adding a sub too.

I wish I could part-ex my TV for a 65" too, later next year I think on that one.

Need to dial in the denon a bit first time having an AVR, and their is a bit of a learning curve.

So far though, well happy.

I'm pleased to hear you're appreciating it. The next huge change you'll get is when you add a sub or two.

That centre speaker needs to be up on top of that cabinet though, not in it. The cabinet will be killing its sound. I suggest you raise the TV on a taller aftermarket VESA mount stand or otherwise mount it on the wall so the speaker can fit below.

Thanks! The BDI slats are supposedly 'Acoustically Transparent' 🙄 - and I couldn't hear any difference with vs without the door, audessey didn't seem to notice much either. It was a main selling point of the unit for me. I do need to angle the centre up though, I have some wedges on the way. The whole project has been built knowing it would always be sub-optimal, just trying to balance the AV with living space / a 4 year old 🥲

Once I've moved the living room door so it opens to the other side, I'll see how much more space I have to play with for subs/bigger fronts and just generally widening the soundstage.

At the moment, I'm planning on putting a sub (probably an SVS SB1000 pro) between the sofa and armchair, but I reckon I could squeeze one in up front too if I get creative.

But yeah, I went back to watch a few movies I'd watched recently and they sound SO much better, I can totally see why people go to the extremes with it all!

Nice set up. If you don't have any cooling for that x2600, can I recommend that you feel the top every now and again, as that's not a happy place for a typical modern Denon :)

You may want to (if you haven't already) switch off VIDEO-OUTPUT SETTINGS-VIDEO CONVERSION.

You lose menu overlays on the TV but it runs much cooler and I'd be interested in your report if you see similar to this when its off:

Thanks, so far it's been fine and it's basically on all day. The cabinet has a ton of vents. On the top, bottom, shelves, front and back!

I do want to stick a little bluetooth temperature sensor in there though just to be sure.

Oh, thanks for the heads up on the video conversion, I'll check that out. My only knock on the denon so far is the TV overlay is really .... ugly? Very 90's lol.
