I would like to see Liverpool do it but I think AC Milan are going to be the bookies choice. Does anyone know if it will be on the terrestrial channels?

Me too. I relly think that they can too. These guys know how to play the italians and I think that they have their name on the trophy. What a result for British football if they can lift it....superb.

Rafa Benetiz seems like a really nice guy too. Apparently he will emulate Murhinio if they lift the cup. UEFA follwed by European.

    Pete.

As an Everton fan I will definitely want Liverpool to win and if they do with a bit of luck UEFA may grant an extra place to Liverpool (providing Everton still finish 4th that is!) for the champions league.

Not as sly as the non trophy winning clubs trying to blag their way into europe.... I mean there are Champions League and UEFA places for finishing 2.....3....4....5...6....7...... for achieving what.....nothing!!

    A joke....... I think!

It's designed so that the best teams in Europe get to compete, whats the point of having a CL without Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, ManU etc. Lets face it Arsenal are a joke when it comes to Europe, they're never going to win it.

Erm, because it's supposed to be based on MERIT, not on the size of a clubs bank balance/support. I couldn't give a monkeys if none of them qualify. If they aren't good enough to be champions, then they shouldn't be competing in the thing - period.

Oh no! What a disaster! Not.

i have to agree,if your not good enough to finsih in the top 4 then why should we have a instant place ? what i dont like is the fact its not a level playing field and this rule has been bent before.

and your lot are crap in europe no doubt about that lmao ;)

Who's arguing? :D It's the reason for it I dispute. Even the long term regulars have commented that Wengers insistance on playing one style for domestic matches, and another for Europe just confuses. Liverpool stuck to basicaly the same pattern. It was a boring pattern, but it worked! :D ;)

What a laughable statement (but not funny) surely it should be if you're not good enough to finish top of the league you don't qualify.

No that was the European cup, something we have won 4 times, this is the Champions League, it has a slightly different format. The idea is that the 4th placed teams in the likes of Italy, England and Spain are still miles better than most other League winners from other nations, so it's actually harder to win. With the older European cup format, the UEFA cup was harder to win because it had an extra round and often the league leaders at the time were in the UEFA cup.

    Exactly.

Nope. The evidence is that all it's done is lowerquality not raise it. Many of the national championships have been rendered a farce as one teams gets away, then the others no longer bother to pursue, they just pick off wins for next four slots. This cannot be good for overall standards.

In terms of spectator interest, Juve for example, did not manage one group match that was higher than their best Serie A attendances. Familiarity breeds contempt. Sir Bobby Charlton made this exact point a few years back when he pointed to the ever lowering standard of "champion’s league" games. He too called for a return to champions only qualification.

It’s also BS to say only the "big nations" can produce top sides. I seem to recall a certain team by the name of Red star Belgrade beating Liverpool twice in the European cup in 74', while a then unknown Ajax side beat the same side 4-0 in Amsterdam in 67'.

The champions leauge is producing a boring production line of the same old faces winning it year in year out.

The European cup has always been like that, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Liverpool... same with the World cup. Brasil, Germany, Italy... It's a class thing, you either have it or you don't.

Erm but surely by winning the CL then Liverpool would be champions....of Europe. And should be entitled to defend their title?

Interestingly enough according to the Guardian Website uefa rules state '' if the winners come from Germany or France (who only have three teams in the Champions League) they automatically qualify for the following year's competition - but the same rule doesn't apply for teams from Italy, England or Spain, who have each have four Champions League spots''.

    Very fair
