Well I've just checked out the list of artists at all the concerts and they ain't exactly "blowing up my skirt".

There's nothing for me at the London gig. The US venue similarly bores me apart from Linkin Park.

As for the Germany, well I thought the Die Toten Hosen had long since gone. Mind you, I'd watch Green Day.

But as the BBC cannot cover all, it looks like I'll have to content myself with a poor quality internet feed that will grind to a halt due to the high volume of traffic.

Thanks Mr Geldolf, this was very well thought out.

Er, well, sorry to disagree, but the London gig looks fine here. Yes, there's featherweights like Carey and Madonna, but REM, Pink Floyd, Travis, Stereophonics, Dido, and Elton John are all reasonable to excellent live acts. Live8 is meant to be charity effort so Geldofs gone for "acceptable to as many as possible". A lot of them don't float my boat either, but it's the spirit that counts.

One of the best gigs I've ever seen was a Moody Blues charity gig I got dragged along to. Not my scene, but at least they gave 110% effort for being paid nothing.

I agree that they've gone for the artists that pull the biggest crowds, which is worrying as it shows that we're a nation of farty old muso's as Ben Elton would say.

It would have been nice if the concerts could have been more staggered and that they were all covered by the Beeb.

Mind you it's nice to see some countries fielding a line up of bands that are specific to their nation.

Agreed. Are we saying that we can't field a lineup strong enough with just UK bands?

At least The Spice Girls aren't carrying out their threat to reform.

Watching Primal Scream at Glasto earlier (on TV unfortunately :() gave me some hope that that's not entirely true.

But there's not much at Live8 that'll encourage me to turn on the TV :thumbsdow.

Got to say that im only really bothered bout R.E.M as im a fan, and also maybe Elton John as ive seen him live and was impressed. Other than that not overly inpressed tbh. Tho it would have been funny to see the Spice Girls get 'revolved' off by the stage coz their set went on too long :D (that would be after one bar of any song)!

The only bright spot for me in a dismal line-up (has there ever been a charity music event where Elton DIDN'T turn up?) is Pink FLoyd. Although I'm ready to be disappointed by them, to be honest.

A fiver says they play 'Money'...

Damn the organisers. Joe public is not allowed to take booze in and there will be none on sale. All the celebs/guests in the gold circle will have booze galore.

It would have been great for the kids. I can't stand them but have to admit they're one of the biggest groups of recent times.

They would also have loved all the publicity. My own personal theory is that they turned it down because they couldn't have performed live. They would have looked daft following a string of live acts then doing a pathetic mime-along-to-backing tapes routine.

    RDB :)

PS Personally looking forward to REM, Dido, U2, Snoop Dogg and Pink Floyd.

If you wanted some credible musical/political contribution, you'd need the Dead Kennedys to reform.

because its being filmed in 1080p High Def to be shown on screens for beeb exec's some place so naturally SD will look remarkably better. being broadcast in HD over europe but not in the usa for some strange reason.

    Commenst on artists so far...

    Just seen Dido.

Sounds flat as a pancake. How did this girl get a record contract.

the old timers seem to be getting the upper hand at the moment.

I must admit I have never understood her popularity. Her voice is totally two dimensional. Coldplay were dull as dishwater as well..........

Thought the Macca U2 intro didn't work....thought U2 were good though. Dido should just have gone home. Yousso nDour was great though in his last duet with her. Manics are quite good.....Elton John Saturday Night's alright was great but Pete Doherty should also have stayed at home and watched on TV. Coldplay were nothing special.

I'm kind of looking forward to seeing if Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour actually look at each other tonight.....or whether they just kick the crap out of each other.

yeah but its armchair critics that stump up the cash to buy the CDs. And in her case I wouldn't.

I thought Bill Gates rocked though

So? They hand out contracts and hype to the likes of Kylie, the Spice girls etc too. I would rather agree with:-
than the shower that run the music 'biz'. Just because your face fits doesn't mean youre any good.

So am I! Seconds out.................

Geldof was really great to see - his performance definitely made an impression on an otherwise lethargic crowd.

I think Annie Lennox just stole the show. :)
