Hi, i have decided to buy another PSP after seeing that you can play PS1 games on it now. The problem is i need someone to give me a brief update of basically the last few months and what i've missed. When i had my old PSP, i think the latest Version was 2.5. I used homebrew quite a lot so i know how to install programs etc. I have looked at firmwares such as 3.02 OE-A and B. I have no idea what this is? Also whats the latest version you can downgrade now? On average how big are PS1 games?

Any update or help is greatly appriciated.

    Thanks

hi, the latest firmware is 3.03 which u can not downgrade from at the moment so u won't be able to run homebrew i think.

3.03 is the latest official fw.
3.03 OE-A is being worked on - apparently - by Dark Alex (rumoured weekend release).

3.02 OE-B is the best custom fw available at the minute.

2.80 (TA-079 to TA-086) is the latest firmware you are able to roll back from.

PSX Games... well depends... If it was one CD back in the day, then rest assured its under 700mb. Obviously you'll be able to tell just by putting your PSX game in your computer.

3.03 OE-A is rumoured to have compatability for PSX compression.

There you go, thats everything I've learnt about the PSP fw's in the last week.

You basically need to upgrade to 2.71, then use the generic firmware downgrader to go to 1.50. From there you can install the Dark Alex custom firmware (2.71 or 3.02). Once this is installed you have a recovery console which allows you to downgrade back to any firmware you want, so there's now no chance of bricking your psp.

Cheers for the replies guys. So what does this custom firmware actually do? Whats the difference between this and the official 3.02.

Also when you mentioned "TA-079 to TA-086", is this just the motherboard. Do you just check through the UMD slot to see which one you have? Are all the mother boards between 79 and 89? If they are not, can you still downgrade them?

If i was to buy a PSP from the internet Eg. Amazon or Play what would the firmware likley to be?

    Many Thanks

It allows you to run all homebrew without needing devhook, run ISO's direct from memory stick, play UMDs from any region, roll back to any firmware you want.. etc etc.

Dunno, but i took the risk at my local Game on boxing day and ended up with a 2.71 TA-082, 2 days later there was a TA-082 downgrader released. Lucky or what!

From what I gather PSP's shipping with 3.X firmware are still few and far between. Though 2.81 is more widely spread.

If you're lucky you might get a 2.71/2.80....

Sony PSP @ £111.75 If the offer hasn't expired.

Are you a bit buggered if you're bang up to date with the FW?

Either way as long as the firmware is under 2.80 or under, you can go down.

Well i finally got my brand new white psp from Amazon this morning. Was out for delivery by Parcelfarce yesterday but they claimed that the 'recipient' wasn't in yesterday, even though i was in all day. Bloody driver probably couldn't be bothered coming! So i wake up this morning to find it delivered to my suprise, as i thought they only re-deliver on saturdays for an extra charge (£12).

Any way i open it up to find i have version 2.60 and non TA-082 motherboard! :arty: Just charging it up now.

While reading up on the firmware stuff yesterday i read that the latest custom firmware can support compressed PSX games, but i couldn't find anywhere that tells you how to actually compress the games?

Also just to double check do i now update to 2.71, downgrade to 1.5, then update to 3.02OE.Can you upgrade directly to 3.03OE from 1.5 or do i have to go through 3.02 A ---> B----> 3.03 OE?

    Many Thanks

You can go from 1.5 straight to 3.03OE-A. You use popstation to convert and compress PS1 games just check out the readme once you have downloaded the custom firmware.

Well i have had both before but sold them both as they were just collecting dust. But i decided to buy another PSP because of the release of the PS1 emulator and that adds to the games libray of the PSP. Also my favourite game is Pro Evo and its great on the PSP so i went for another PSP. However when i had the DS Lite it was great fun. Each system has their advantages and dis-advantages. You should just look at the games available for each system and base your desicision on that. I'm sure whichever system you choose you will have great fun

I am considering ordering one off Amazon Marketplace, i haven't ordered it yet. I am just a bit concerned at why they are that cheap and they might be fake. Seems as though the link from ASH1 has Sandisk 4gbs for £77 which isn't too bad.

I got mine from Emartbuy where the blue Sandisk is just under £70.

    http://www.emartbuy.co.uk/products.php?prodtypeid=15&memoryType=Memory+Stick+Pro+Duo&Filter[reset]=1

Some good prices on Amazon but like Ebay i would be concerned that they were fake as alot of them don't have the orginal packaging.
