Has anyone used one of these? I would like to know if it is any good!

My DVD player died at the weekend, a 5 carousel SONY DCP C615 job. So I am after a recorder now as i dont have a video.

This currys offer looks great for one with DV-in but usually you get whatyou pay for!

Its either this Liteon or the Sony GX3! And the GX3 doesnt have DV-in.

No I haven't used one but from what I've read they get pretty hot and have even died on a few people because of this. The LVW-5005 overcomes this problem by incorporating a fan at the back of the unit. The 5005 is also capable of recording on DVD+R/RW, -R/RW and CD-R/RW whilst the 5001 can only record on DVD-R/RW. I think there have been a number of other revisions / improvements made to it too. You can read more about it in the following reviews (These were collected when I was interested in getting one myself. I'ts just that I'm holding off for the moment since they are about to release a DVDR + HDD one soon):

    http://hwhell.com/articles/lite-on_5005_dvd_playerrecorder/
    http://www.envynews.com/index.php?ID=665#start<br>

I also found this site to be the cheapest retailer of the Lite-On 5005 (by quite some distance too):

    http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/Hardware_Section__.html (Scroll down a bit)

(They're pretty good for DVD media too: 80p a disc for Verbatim DVD+R's.)

Anyway, sorry I couldn't answer more of the questions you were after.

    Alex

This is a very poor machine
it does not support RGB via scart , the DVD+Rw discs do not always work , it has ruined 3 out of 5 that I have put in although it works fine on DVD+rs

Mine is going back today and I am buying the Sony RDRGX3 multi region for £275 inc delivery which I think is pretty good

i have used datasafe dvd-/+r discs and had no problems burning over 150 discs and all play on major stand alone dvd plyrs.i have the pioneer 106d in the pc.also if anyone has the liteon 5001 from currys at £149.99,then you have a good deal considering what the machine does.im new at standalone dvd recorders so this recorder at that price suited me fine.currys machine has the fan at the rear of it,so liteon must have updated it.
also--- when i record on a dvd+rw i want to burn it onto another disc (dvd-/+r) on my pc ,so i can free up the rw disc.because rw discs are more expensive.has anyone done this yet?what software do you use? also what is the video_rm folder?
