Liteon LVW 5045 burning problem

Asking this on behalf of a friend. He has this model, and so far has only managed to burn one DVD from the hard dsik contents, succesfully. All other times it gets to 68%, then locks up. The only thing he can do then is unplug the unit. He's tried some -R's (ritek G05) and a philips RW, both of which stop at 68%.

I am going to get the latest firmware for him, but in the meantime has anyone else experienced this?.
