    Hello,

I am looking at buying 5 Linn Unik Speakers (whats with the spelling?!), and a subwoofer.

Does anybody here have a 5 Unik Speaker setup which they use for home cinema? How do you find them? Do they sound "full range"? And would they "fill" an apartment living room (25 sq meters).

I know, I know - loads of questions, but I would really apreciate peoples opinion on these speakers.

    Thanks,

    Damien

The K in virtually everything Linn sells is just like a long standing trademark, but results in some very odd spellings!

As to the Unik speakers,in real terms they aren't full range in respect of being able to reproduce true deep bass, and thus,as you've already thought, will work best in a theatre system with a decent sub,and whilst you can match these with a Linn sub, there are plenty of other suitable manufacturers to look at.

They'll certainly fill your room in soundfield terms, and whilst I don't have any direct experience of these models,I'd be surprised if they don't have some of the Linn "house sound" to them which usually means a dry overall balance, and good detail....just remember they are pretty small.
You'd really need to find a good dealer, and sit down and listen with some of your own DVD's and CD's,and try to arrange a home demo also.

Thanks for your response. I think I am going to stick with a the Linn subwoofer which they recommend with these speakers. I am buying them off of one of the few specialist AV retailers in Ireland. Impossible to find a dealer here which offer a large range of speaker options to demo and compare.

    Thanks again!

Just make sure you listen to them before paying for them.
I was looking at the 5.1 Unik system and borrowed a pair of Uniks from my local dealer.
Very disapointed as they sounded like i was listening to decent TV speakers.
Might be different with the sub but do check it out first.
