    • Hello All,I have just got a pre 2000 serial number LP12 in fantastic condition considering its 40 years old,as am I.Has been dealer serviced,no arm or cartridge however.I have a Rega RB250/AT 110E using with a Systemdek 11XE/900 performing well,is suitable to transfer to the Linn?.Budget limited so using my existing AR A06 amp and AE Linear 3 speakers perfectly happy but thinking of changing to a Denon DL110.Lastly considering a future amp change using Yamaha AS500 or Marantz PM6500,phono quality is most impotant but onboard Dac in PM6500 would maybe refresh my ancient Philips CD880 as a bonus too.Looking to fit and forget the LP12 as I want to keep it as standard as possible, would love to go the Linn arm and cartridge route but sadly far to expensive. Thanks for any guidance,thoughts.:).

I would have thought an LP12 is unlikely to come with a Rega armboard cutout, so you'd need to check this. The IIX 900 is also a pretty good deck (punched way above it's weight 20 years ago); a 40 year old LP12 won't not be miles better without a good, possibly expensive overhaul. Think there are other good forums more focused on vinyl with knowlegable members.

My LP12 is running with my old Rega RB300 arm just fine. Arm boards are cheap so go with yours for now, enjoy and start saving to get a Linn arm in the future.

Thanks for the advice, living in Glasgow theres no shortage of Linn Dealers/specialists almost spolit for choice.:).Decided to have my RB250 rewired and modded by Origin Live.Denon DL110 cartridge new for £85 from Japan, any better alternative for the price?.Rega armboard supplied new with the LP12.The Linn was an early 40th birthday present, really is in outstanding condition, clean bill of health and ready to go.Always wanted one and chose the IIXE/900 as the best I could afford at the time, tried the Axis amongst others and was not that greatly impressed.I might consider a power supply probably a Hercules at some point as changing speeds otherwise perhaps rapidly irritating.

If it's not too late, I recommend taking your TT to Johnny at Audio Origami (he lives near Glasgow's West End) for all TT needs. He is an absolute whizz when it comes to TTs and LP12s in particular. What he doesn't know about an LP12 isn't worth knowing. Even if you've already agreed to work by another party, it's still worth knowing about him as his work is second to none! He also makes damn good tea :)

I meant to say, Johnny fitted my RB300 and Denon DL-103 and also gave my LP12 a once over and since I put it back in my system, it sounds superb.

My LP12 was my 50th present. I would definetly recommend a Hercules if you can't streatch to a Lingo II. Also worth a thought is a Trampoline II. Cartridge wise it all depends on what you listen to, the arm and the phone stage as to what will make a good match. The Orfoten 2M Red gets a lot of good reviews and is in your price range.

Thanks again for the help and advice.Recieved my Rega arm back and refitted AT110E with a new stylus put back on 11XE impressed is an understatement, happy at the moment and hope to fit to the LP12 shortly.Keeping the LP12 as it is,would like an Ittok but beyond my means.I prefered the 11XE/Rega combo to the Axis/Akito back in the day.DL110 is en route from Japan, dont want to change too much at once.Great spot with Audio Origami, will remember them for the future.

Hello again, the DL110 has just arrived, will be fitted soon hope its as good as its reputation. My AR A06 amplifier has both MM and MC phono inputs, should I stick to the MM input or try the MC instead?.Would the MC input overload as the output is higher than usual?.Fitted the RB250/AT110E to the LP12 earlier on today.Quick spin of Hounds Of Love/Kate Bush has just reminded me why I always wanted a LP12.Rock A Little/Stevie Nicks is drawing to a close,Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You about to start, probably leading to an all night listening session.:D.
