I heard this the new Linn Komri this morning, has anyone else heard it?
Not yet. I'm not sure I want to, aren't they about £12k? <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">
What did you think? (and what was playing through them?)
They are £25000 a pair.....
p.s What did you think and did you hear them at Tim's?
The Komri system I heard was a CD12 (the best CD player I know), the AV pre amp and Klimax amps. I think the AV pre amp is one of the best AV sounding amps I know but wonder whether Linn should be designing a Pre12 to go with the Klimax and CD12. If nothing else it looks different! I remain to be convinced by the Klimax yet, perhaps it is not to my style or I need to spend more time with it. The cases are the best I have seen in Hifi however.
The Komri is an unusual best. It has an active bass unit and a passive top in the version I saw. The two bass units appear to be driven by another version of a Klimax. The are active servo controlled (like my Paradigm Servo 15). The speaker appears to be a 5 way unit, 4 way passive (top end) and 1 way active servo bass.
A supertweeter, tweeter and midrange are all domes, tightly arranged in a horn fashion from casual observation. A sort of point source (ala Kef?) but done completely differently as is the usual Linn way. It is supposed to flat from 20 hz to 30khz. The guy in the shop said it was flat from 12 hz but I dont believe him. He played some awful track with loads of bass. It is certain subs are Not require at all here but I think my Servo15 goes lower but I wouldnt make claims that that does 12hz. I have some decent output down to 15 hz and that is frightening enough. I remain dubious of 12 hz claims without 18 inch drivers floating around. Anyway they have more than enough low freq umpf to satisfy the most serious bass nutter.
The reason I asked if anyone had heard these yet was I wasnt totally convinced by what I heard. Before stating that I thought I would ask the question to see what others reactions were. Have I got this wrong? I am normally a good judge of these things, perhaps it was all just bedding in.
I am not sure what was wrong but I have heard better performances from speakers at much lower prices. The B and W 800 series, Kef Ref series come to mind.
But £25000 a pair. Each speaker weighs 265 lbs (I checked!). There were even faults in the Vineer.
any news yet?
I would hope that Linn get round to doing a decent pre-amp to go with the CD12 soon. The Kairn is a superior two channel pre-amp for audio compared to a 5103...yet they continue to demonstrate two channel with the av-preamp...Oh well, sure it wont be going on for long.
I share your view on Klimax.
No news yet - well and truly on tenterhooks. You?
WRT Komri, I don't want to offend anyone, but you'd have to be a nutter to spend £25k on a pair of speakers. I know we all get the upgrade bug, but that seems to be taking it too far....
I heard them In Harrods and somewhere else. They don't sound like they are worth £25 the B&W N800's are a much better beqts.
The B&W's don't look like coffins either...
