My friend is taking his first tentative step into hifi and is purchasing a Linn.

It is for a 12' by 10' room.

He is going to audition a few sets of Floor-standing speakers and has a budget (for the speakers) of upto £400. Any suggestions for suitable models/makes

He listens to mainly 60/70s rock/blues etc

    cheers
    Phil

I'd be cautious when using floorstanders in a small room. They can produce too much bass and sound boomy. Rather get a good pair of bookshelf speakers such as Quad 11L's, Dynaudio 42's, MA Silver S1's or Epos M5's. These will be easier to integrate into his room (using some good stands of course) and all produce more bass than you think they will, judged on their size alone.

Zero complaints about the Linn - brilliant piece of kit and will work well with any speakers in his price range. :smashin:
