Last I was unable to connect to the internet on any of the machines at home even though it showed I was connected. There was a message saying "Limited Connectivity" but all the wireless stuff had maximum bars available. Even the Desktop connected to the router via the ethernet cable would not connect to the internet.

I tried switching the router off and on again but it had no effect, as did changing the ADSL Filter. I eventually sacked it and went to bed, got up this morning and it was all working fine again...I have noticed it happen a few times before but have always been able to get on one of the laptops or the desktop, even the iPod.

Why is it happening and how do I make sure it doesn't happen again please? Thanks for the help in advance.

I'll buy another router tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion.

Who is your ISP?

I'm with O2 and last night my router wents tits up and I couldn't connect to the internet nor to the web interface, even though the wireless side was working fine. This was a brand new router from O2 this week. I phoned them last night and they did remote testing and couldn't get it to work using reset. They've agreed to send another router.

However, powering off the router and back on again has got it to work again.

I'm with Orange but bought my own Belkin wireless router about two years ago. I normally have to turn the router off and on again to get the laptop to work about 3 times a week for some reason.

Had similar with my BT Home Hub (although I'm using wired not wireless) when I re-arranged my study. It turns out the Hub doesn't like being placed close to sources of electical interference such as computer monitors. Moved it a couple of feet (recommendation was a metre) away from the monitor and now it's all hunky dory.

Does it coincide with another PC or something being powered up?

I continue to have issues with my O2 Thomson router not properly handling IP address assignment via DHCP:- it will assign an IP address that is already taken, then I get conflicts and have to reboot.

The O2 router really is pants.

Not usually, it generally happens the first time I boot up one of the wireless devices, never seem to have a problem with the wireless xbox 360 though, or the desktop which is wired to the router. It was just last night where it affected everything and no matter what I did it would not connect.

id put money on the power supply.... i had exactly the same problem, bought a new router, and the same issue?!! the thing to me (the complete layman novice) the router was 'working' as all the lights were on and all my computers could pick up my details and signal strength....

then my bro (computer programmer) came round and connected his diagnostics laptop up and noted a low power reading.... he asked where the new psu was, as i was using the old one:rolleyes: i handed it over and it all started working 100%... i was both gutted and relieved, as i now have a new router when there was no need... but at least i can now stream porn.... in HD  :D

It may have been that you had no internet connectivity. As you say, you were connected to the router fine.

Check with your ISP to see if they were experiencing down time last night.

It's almost certainly a DHCP problem, setup static IP on each of your devices and it's unlikely you'll see the same problem again.

Sounds like your PCs/Xbox weren't getting a valid gateway address from the router, no gateway equals no internet.

Thread moved now it has some traffic
