Just received my Limit 900SE from Play. Advertised as multi-region and Cyrus tuned.
Does not play any multi-region DVD's and has no Cyrus marking or paperwork - Not too impressed at present.
Spoke to a firend who also ordered one, same deal for him too !

Anything I should know before hassling Play ? :lease:

You need to run the handset hack for it, which I got from the the DVD player handset hacks forum. Run that and all your disks should play.

Hi,go back in this forum (dvd player's)search for limit900se or limit800se(big thread under this which cover's as much about 900 as 800)you will find the hack and learn more.My player is badged cyrus, had it a couple of month's as long as the inside component's are as per what Cyrus prob spec'ed cannot see any problem.Only minor prob's i have(which i think are common)are every time you switch it on,if you are wanting output in RGB you have to set it again each time.Other prob transport system noisy even when idling.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try the hack tonight...

Was a bit peed off, as it was advertised as multi-region out of the box and expected it to work.
Am well impressed with the picture quality over component and build quality seems good. Do agree that the transit is a bit noisy though....

Yeah I think Limit were advertising them like this too when I got mine, but the crack only takes 30 seconds and it works a treat.

It's a fantastic player for the money.

Hi,reading thread's on here people with projector's etc think it's good using component, picture good via RGB on my Sony 32inch CRT.CD sound and DVD-A sound also Excellent(reading on here supposedly the Zoran video chip in it is the same as what Arcam use,if not the latest chip model). Also another minor prob, you cannot switch it to off/on or standby using remote(that's when you notice transport noise most). But for price a bargain,it don't do SACD,but maybe with DualDisc coming out we might get a few more title's to choose from(hope what come's out have proper DVD-A on them),tried the free DualDisc(Hi-Fi Choice Mag out now)and played DVD side and sounded OK

Just received mine from Play this morning.
Box and player said 900 rather than 900SE and there wasn't a Cyrus badge. Thought there may be a non-tweaked version called just 900, so rang Limit just now. Spoke to Nick (assume the same Nick who has been on here), he said that all 900's have been tuned by Cyrus and was surprised there wasn't a badge (he's going to send me one!).
I also mentioned the MR thing, and he said that you need to do the remote hack. He's emailed it to me:

    1. Open the disc tray
    2. On the remote, press the 10+ button, quickly followed by 5 3 6 7 5 1
    3. Choose the region code by pressing 1 for R1, 2 for R2, etc. or 9 for all regions.
The OSD will say A1, A2, A9, etc.
    4. To enable/disable VCD playback, press 8. The OSD will say C0D0 for VCD off,
and C1D1 for VCD on. The 8 button toggles between on and off.

I'll reply suggesting that he contacts Play to get them to remove the MR bit if all their 900's aren't built with MR.

If all 900's are SE then why didn't they just call it 900 as there is no mention of 900SE anywhere!
Be interesting if any 900SE owners have SE mentioned anywhere on the player/box/docs.

my 900se has a cyrus badge on the front, but didn't come with the autheticity certificate tat came with my 800se that i bought directly from the limit website.

osmyth - if you speak to nick again ask him, how come play are selling these machines at such low prices yet their own website still lists full price?

    thanks

Just been playing a few disks.
The picture is a lot better than my Panasonic e30 dvd-recorder as that seemed a bit dull whereas the Limit is a lot more vivid.
Waiting on a component cable to be delivered to try Progressive, compared to the Pana pe30 inbuilt de-interlacer, hopefully that will improve the pic some more.
Only downside I can see so far is the mechanism/laser/transport whatever you might call it. It is noticeable when the film starts (Pana e30 wasn't really noticeable), however it seems to progressively get quieter the further through a film you go. Same for a CD, if you skip tracks, the tone of the mechanism reduces.
    Anyone else the same?

Play.com are still advertising Limit DVDA900SE's but can only supply Limit DVDA900's (at least from last week when I tried to order mine - and got a 900 instead of a 900SE).

My email to info@limitelectronics.co.uk about the difference between the 900 and 900SE has just been answered:

    Hi,
Thanks for your message. The SE versions of the DVD800 and DVDA900 are
specially tuned by Cyrus. The old versions are no longer produced.
    Best regards,
    Nick

Yeah I'm only after to checking mine (I bought it 2 weeks ago) and it's a DVDA900 and not DVDA900SE!!! Maybe the lack of SE's is the reason the players are now down to £49.99 on Play.com!!! This has really peeved me off, not only did I not get an SE but the price has been cut by £30 in 2 weeks!!!!

    Just to clarify the situation:

All Limit DVD players currently sold by Play are definitely the SE (Cyrus-tuned) versions. When we originally produced these models, we were also making non-SE versions, so to differentiate the stock (more for our own use than anything else), we put a "Tuned by Cyrus" sticker on the box. Since we no longer produce the non-SE versions, there's no chance of any mix-ups in the warehouse, so later production uses the standard box without stickers.

We also took the decision to stop printing the certificates in order to save on cost. If anyone really wants a certificate, please PM me and I'll send one out, as I've still got a few in the office.

It also appears from posts here that a small quantity of stock had the Cyrus badges missed off during the production process. These should definitely be there, and if you need one, again, please PM me and I'll organise it. Just to reiterate, all stock sold by Play is definitely SE-standard.

Play are able to sell the players at such a low price due to their enormous buying power, together with a general reduction in production costs of these players since their release a couple of years ago. Due to them being an internet-only retailer, they benefit from reduced overheads, and I believe that there also certain fiscal advantages in them being based in Jersey.

I hope that this clears up any misunderstandings.

    Cheers,
    Nick

Now it's clarified that these are SE models for £50 it's a steal. I'm thinking of getting one for the Cyrus CD side alone to replace the portable CD going through the stereo upstairs, and it'll double as a DVD player!

The only thing I would say against it is the noisy mechanism for the 1st part of a disk. The lack of a standby button on the remote may also put people off. Aside from that it's very good, and for £50 it's a bargain.

Big thanks to Nick from Limit...

Sent PM over the weekend about the lack of a Cyrus badge - badge turned up in the post today.

A rather nice DVD/CD player and good customer service too....

I haven't had a real chance to get it up and running and comparing it to my old Tosh 220 but on first impressions it's pretty good, not as noisy as I feared, but no Cyrus badge. Sent PM to get one though.

Hey guys I am gonna buy the Limit 900SE from play and have a few questions. The way it says it comes with no cables I take it that just means I need to buy a scart and if so is the Thor scart at £17.99 worth getting and is it that much of an improvement over a standard scart. Secondly this will come to near £70 and I was looking at the Sony DVP-LS755 at £80 would that be worth getting instead?

    Thanks in advance

Yes you'll have to buy your own scart leads, I bought the IXOS XHT611 scart lead with my Limit 900SE. Don't know much about the Sony DVP-LS755 but I can tell you now that the Limit 900SE is a steal at £49.99!! Go for it.

Well after looking at mine for the past few days I'm amazed. With component it beats what I thought was my unbeatable Tosh 220. It doesn't appear as detailed as my 220, yet the picture seems more natural and relaxing to look at.

And Nick, if your reading this, thanks very much, my little Cryus sticker arrived today.

    Pakehurst, unfortunately no DivX support.

Have to reiterate that this is an absolute no-brainer for £50

Have a pioneer 656A at the present time however the laser seems to be wearing as the player gets stuck on dvds that previously played ok. Has happened to a previous player a few years ago.

Was looking at this review - what is the limit's picture quality like? and how good is it playing SVCD DVDR -/+ , DVDRW -/+ and DL? Would I be better off just getting anothe pioneer eg 585 or something.... The idea that cyrus has had a play sounds interesting,
