I finally set up my viera 42" with the DVE disc (Pal). Found that all
the settings, i.e. contrast, brightness etc have ended up at just
past the half way mark, in cinema mode.

What im upset about is that im not really happy with the end result.
I was instantly tempted to tweak it to how i like it best. As if i
    know best or something.
(Maybe i got use to the panel with low brightness setting etc!)

I guess you should have it set up to how you prefer? but i was just a
little annoyed. I think i was expecting a definitive answer to how the
    screen looks best.

What i want to know is, has anyone else had the same experience or
do you go along with the DVE settings??

I was impressed with the audio sections of the Disc. Probably worth buying
    for those alone.

    Look forward to your views!!

DVE is just a more scientific way to tweeak (ambientlight makes a big difference) Calibrate in watching conditons ie curtains closed lights off or midday curtains open all lights on....... (that bit is explained on the disc...)

Used DVE on my CRT, whilst waiting for my Viera, didn't like the results so switched back to eyeball. Haven't found the need to use it on my two week old Viera as the PQ looks great on cinema with settings about half way and colour set to cool. It seems to get better with time.
