Hey guys, wondering if someone can please advice on what is most important re: light control and maximising contrast to get the best image. I know the basics are paint your walls black, minimise reflections and keep out ambient light.
I'm happy to:
1. Paint the ceiling black
2. Paint the walls black
3. Paint the back walls black
4. Use black furniture where possible
5. Use a black rug for close tot he cinema area (say a 4x4M rug) and then the entrance portion of the room for 3M be a wooden floor.
However I do see users going down the velour, MVEL22 route and I've seen some velvet myself and the stuff is fantastic.
Question is just how far down the rabbit hole do you go with the Velvet and light control close to the screen for maximum benefits?
I get that I can cover my entire room in the stuff, but is their a point of diminishing returns?
I'm planning a HT room and will likely post images of the room's plan at a later date but I was just wondering if the end of the room where the PJ screen is is covered in velour, say MVEL22 on the side walls and the back wall (maybe via panels or a curtain), for approximately 1M, and then there is a seemless change to black matte paint (again not sure which paint is best) will that do the job?
Although I absolutely get aggressively treating the room for lots of other points (light reflection, immersion with the lights off), I'm looking for some level of compromise as I don't need a full-on dedicated room over a lounge-ish area for at least half the coverage of the room. I'm still happy to keep a dark aesthetic and I'll work around that but I do want to maximise PQ where it matters most which I assume is close to the screen? Or am I wrong?
