LG TV turns off Sony DAV HDX589W System

I purchased the Sony DAV-HDX589W DVD Player and stereo system about a year ago and it worked beautifully with our Insignia TV. We just bought a new LG TV (55LE5400). Our cable box is plugged into the TV's HDMI 1 port, and the DVD player is plugged into the HDMI 2 port.

Whenever we turn off the TV using either the LG remote or our universal cable remote, the stereo system also turns off. Here is what I have concluded:

  • If I unplug the HDMI cable between the stereo system and the TV HDMI 2 port, turning the TV of DOES NOT turn off the stereo system
  • When both the TV and stereo system are off, the power button only turns on the TV
  • When both the TV and stereo are on, the power button turns off both.
  • If the TV is off and the stereo system is on, pressing the power button turns on the TV and leaves the stereo system on.
  • If both are on, but the stereo system is on anything other than TV/Video input and the power button is pressed, the TV turns off but the stereo system remains on.
I was reading somewhere that when this stereo system is connected to certain Sony TV's, powering on and off the tv will also turn the stereo system on and off. I am thinking this feature is what is my problem, but it only works when turning the TV off. Does any one have any suggestions on what I should do or if I can disable this in the stereo system?

Hi, I also came across a similar problem with my LG LED TV and Sony Blu-ray player. After searching online but could not find a solution, so I decided to look at the setup of my blu-ray player instead of my TV.

The solution I found out was:
1) Go to your DVD or Blu-ray player's System Setup
2) Look for something called "Control for HDMI" or similar
3) Turn off this feature and everything should work normally again.

You can also consult your DVD or Blu-ray player's user manual for more information on this.

Hope this helps :)
