There is a huge thread (probabaly the biggest here) in page 2

The general opinion is that this is an excellent screen. Some people are not aware of the fact that a plasma needs calibration and needs about a week to "settle" so don't give the LG a chance

But this is a great example of Quality without a cool badge.

Why do plasmas need a week to settle?

I'd be interested why they need time to settle aswell as my LG arrived yesterday. Is this settling having the screen sitting in one place after transportation or does it 'settle' when its on meaning that the time it takes to settle will depend on how long you have it on for?

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've learnt so far I believe the term 'Settle' means running the display for approx. 200 hours with the brightness & contrast turned down. Not sure of the reasoning behind this.

"Settle" I believe means for true quality of the screen to start showing, the colour temparature and mixture will get better after hours of use.

The reason for 200 hours with the brightness & contrast turned down is to help prolong the life of your screen.

I have followed both advise and worked well for me.

    Regards.

First 200hrs is when the phosphors are most prone to burn excessively. After which they should become more resilient to screen burn. Some screens are better than others in this respect and not sure where the LG rates in this.

Settling, well I would guess in case of the LG, is the fact how long it takes for you to get used to the picture LOL :rotfl:

    Ekko Star,
You are a very naughty boy for that comment.
If I said something similar about a Samsung I would get called all sorts of names!(And I owned one, God help me)

Well, I dropped it in to Low Power mode as soon as I got mine, and have not had any problems with screen burn, without lowering contrast/brightness settings (set is just shy of 500hrs old now).
