    Hi
I see the LG RH7500 (80gig) RH7800 (160 gig) are available in Europe and the RH7800 seems to be nearly identical in features to the upcoming Sony HX710 but with the added advantage of Optimised recording from HDD to DVD.

    http://www.lge.com/catalog/prodmode...400000&globalCode=DR7800&globalSuffix=000000#

My big question is whether there is simultaneous recording and playback on the same drive (apart from the timeshift of the same program) . I got a copy of the manual and it will only state that:

"Playback and recording for both DVD and built in hard
disk drive (HDD) are completely independent. For
example, you can record to either the DVD or HDD
source and play back video from the other source at the
    same time.
    1. Start recording.
    2. Press HOME to display the Home Menu screen.
    3. Use the v / V / b / B and ENTER buttons to
select a different media type that you want to play
    back.
    4. Start Playback.
The recording will continue while playing back the
    media from the other mode."

I'm suspicious that they say for example - do you think they mean you can't do it on the same drive? Any help appreciated before I think of purchasing! The Sony HX710 can definitely do the above.

    You can!!!
you've probably made your decision by now, but I bought one yesterday and you can playback and record to/from the HDD simultaneously.

The 7900H is also available in Europe, with an added HDMI connection, sadly no scaling available.

I've bought one too - & have the same question - hoping Claire can enlighten me as to how to do this. Presumably can only be possible to/from HDD. This is my second DVD recorder (previous a tangent) It's heaps better in terms of functionality and easy of use although the Tangent was perfectly useful, silent (no fan) but got too hot.

Now down to £269.95, BUT I bought mine for £249.99 from COMET and multi region hacked it myself using this method :-
1: try and play a disc from another region
2: wait for the cannot play disc message
3: the disc will eject, but dont touch it leave it alone
    4: press ZERO seven times on the remote ( 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 )
5: you then get a message congratulating you on hacking your player
6: press the ENTER button on remote to confirm
7: press EJECT on remote to load the disc, and away you go

£20 cheaper than RS and a free MR hack to boot.... ....

    All the best,

    Graham.

I've ordered one of these, but I've just found out that the thing won't record scheduled programmes unless the unit's on standby. Does this mean if I'm watching something I've recorded previously that it won't record my scheduled programmes? If so, that's an absolute pain in the butt - and really a good enough reason not to buy it.

Does anyone with one of these units find it's a problem?

The 7500 is currently £175 from komplett.co.uk, a few questions.

Should I been looking for a differnet device at this price point,

Will an extra £10-£20 get me a much better machine.

Anyone got any feedback on Komplett?

Note that that's the DR7500, not the RH7500. The DR doesn't have a HDD so doesn't have time-slip, etc.

    Sorry to bug everyone but...

And, anyone who has one of these, what sort of volume does it run at when playing back or recording from the HD/DVD? I assume it does have RGB scart out (but not in), and I have read somwhere it passes through RGB scart when off, is this correct?

Well, it's looking bad so far. Seems that if you're watching something from the HDD then scheduled recordings aren't carried out. It also seems that if a scheduled recording to HDD is in progress, you can't time-slip that recording or watch another programme previously recorded onto the HDD.

Looks like my unit'll be going back. :-(

i bought one it has to go away for christmas but had chance to play about with it last night, i love it just few pet hates, i recorded a few mins of "the box" to HDD and when playing back it seemed to stutter at points. but picture quality is excellent and tuner fantastic within mins it found all available channels for me.

Does anyone though use this recorder with NTL Analogue, to view NTL channels i have to hit AV button unlike before when cable was on ch6 or something like that. pet hate but it buggin me.

I've just bought RH7500 which is connected to both Sky digibox and TV via scart and have following problems :-

    1) Whenever switch to AV2 (DVD connection) picture always reverts to 4:3 even though setting ticked on 16:9. I then resize via TV remote and if then use DVD to record or play or do anything, picture again reverts to 4:3

    2) On AV1 (TV) connection I get my normal sound including rear speakers on Sky but no sound from rear speakers if on AV2 (DVD) although get full sound when playing a DVD

    3) Recorded film from Sky onto DVD +RW OK and plays back RH 7500 but not on another DVD player. I assume this is some form of copy protection. Any way round this.

Hope someone can help with anu or all of above.

Time-slipping is where you watch a programme behind the live broadcast - i.e., the show is being recorded live, but you're playing back the recording a few minutes later.

I was all set to buy a sony recorder HX510 or 710 when I seen this. I am planning on getting a sharp LC37P50 screen and like the idea of a HDMI connection from the DVD recorder to the TV. What is the picture quality like from this recorder when playing back DVDs and is it easy to edit recordings such as removing ads etc. I would like to copy whatever is on my sky+ to the HDD on the recorder, edit out the ads and unwanted material and burn to disk. Is this very straight forward
