    Hi folks, new here.

I have been having a quick look throught the threads on DLP back projectors, can't see what I was after so:

Has anyone with an LG RE44SZ21R had the following problem?

I bought on of these last February (2004) and have been very please with it, however a few months ago we had problems with it no starting up, when going to switch on fron standby the led flashes but the TV doesn't start it just goes back to standby. The only way to get the TV to start is either to upnplug it for a while, if that doesn't work the other option is the unplug the set, remove the bulb, replace the bulb. plug back in a nd start, this normally works.

Now this is annoying when it happens every few weeks but it is now sometimes twice a day so I am loath to turn it off but of course that has bulb life imlplications.

When I bought it Currys threw in a 5 years guarantee so an enginner is coming out on Wednesday to have a look, third time, so I would like to be armed with some info if possible.

    Thanks in advance.

    Iain

Yes, you need to have a board swapped out.

I also have this problem occassionaly . It seems to happen more frequently if my sky/freeview boxes are switched off so I leave my freeview box switched permenantly ( 11 watts on\10 watts standby ! ). You could also try switching on using the TV/AV button on the remote. This seems to work (fingers crossed!).

this worldwide (first reported in australia) problem with the LG seems to appear once they are over a year old,
so at 4 months you should be ok, ( although blondie another forum member had a new one with the problem  )
I've had mine for 14 months now so as you can imagine my nerves are shattered, I cross my fingers every time I switch my precious on.
    actually that's a lie :D
I extended my guarantee for 12 months so I don't need to worry

Do you have a link to the reports of this problem elsewhere, I'm trying to get a load of info for when the engineer turns up on Wednesday.

    Cheers

Engineer arrived this morning and has arranged to get the set picked up tomorrow for fix, funny how he knew what the problem could be before he even looked at it!

Can someone tell me how to check how many hours use the bulb has had??? I can't find it on the standard menus, I belive the set needs to be put into service mode but engineer didn't have the info with him!!

press menu on the remote and menu on the front of the tv at the same time to enter the service menu, lamp hours used are in there. :)

keep trying, it's both buttons at the same time, you'll soon get the hang of it,
I just checked and mine has 263 hours on the lamp.

Set was collected on Wednesday for fixing, Mastercare cover. The engineer on parting says it could be the control board or the ballast or the lamp and the lamp isn't covered by the warranty! surprise surprise so I am expecting a call in a few days saying ' the lamp needs replacing' now can anyone tell me how much they are and more importantly where I can get one from, I'd like to be in a position to say bog off I'm not paying £*** when i can get one from xyz at £**.

£280 was cheapest I found, would be nice if it was cheaper elsewhere.

Got the TV back the other day
New Lamp unit, new Ballast, new support bracket and support bracket something, £403, but I didn't pay for it.

The TV now starts up faster then it ever did, 12 flashes of the power light as opposed to the 18 it used to do. Lets hope the fix is permanent.
