Does anyone know if the LG MZ-42PZ14 can do PAL Progressive Scan. I noted from a previous thread that it would accept PS as the component input reads 480p, but is this not only for NTSC?

I am looking at buying the Limit Pro Scan (PAL & NTSC) model at £199 from RS, but need to know if it will make any difference with my R2 discs if the Plasma doesn't support the PAL PS.

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Gant.

I don't know the answer for certain, but the back of the LG tuner box only specifies "480i/480p" next to the component video connects, so I suspect the answer may be 'No'.

I think you are right, and it also is not compatible with RGB-VGA converters. I'm afraid to say you get what you pay for, and a pricier screen has more connectivity.

Do you mean its not compatible with a certain RGB to VGA converter or all RGB to VGA converters? I would not think it can be all RGB to VGA converters.

Afraid so, it's the horizontal synch frequency. RGB scart synchs at 15.625khz, many plasmas and some projectors can cope with this, the LG frequencies start at 31khz upwards. You are therefore limited to component converters as a quality way of getting a STB signal into it.

    Hi Maw,

Thanks for the info, I am still learning and this board is a great resourse of knowledge.

I tend to get a bit mixed up with horizontal and vertical lines, scans and refresh rates etc. The specifications for my LG plasma states "15.73 Khz to 60Khz horizontally" for Display Frequency. Can you put it in simple terms for me where I am getting mixed up?

Again thanks for your input and input of everyone on this board.

    Regards

    Rob

Ah, the confusion arises in that your spec is different from the one I looked up. JS also says they're not compatible, and on this matter he's the man. I checked the spec via a link in an adjacent thread. I'll find it when I have a spot of time, must feed the wife now.

Maybe the specs you looked at were for an older model such as the MZ-42PZ10.

If the scan rate is the same as other plasmas then maybe the RGB to VGA should work, as I thought I read somewhere that a plasma display was really just a comuter display.

I am probably on the wrong track again, but I think I am slowly learning.

It is just a high grade computer display really, the VGA port is a good way of putting a picture on it. The compatibility with RGB-VGA adapters is down to the horizontal synch. frequency. If they can do anything in the 15khz range, you're probably OK, if not, definately not.

Does this mean if you feed the component input on the LG with pal...you wont get 575i....or just that it will not accept 575p?

If this is the LG panel that Richer Sounds sell then, no, it won't take PAL progressive. They were demoing the Limit player on one when I got mine. However, the 9900SE can be made to output all discs (including PAL) as NTSC (480p). I did this on the one in the store and it was then quite happy to play R2 PAL discs onto the LG panel in Progressive mode.

    HTH,

Yep, it was only switching to PAL progressive that caused the picture to break up.

Does anyone know if there are any advanced menu options for these LG plasmas. The standard menu options are a bit limited.
