"True HDMI 2.1"? After the back and forth these past months, certainly a good surprise if true.
Looking forward to the improved BFI mode.

Really happy with this announcement, provided the HDMI ports come good and it's not some half way house. Wanted a 'W-series' for a couple of years and never quite bit the bullet. (always about £1k more expensive here.). But VRR, revised BFF and anti reflective coating makes a compelling panel even better for gaming.
Roll on CES and getting AVForums some hands on with the new toys (between Jet lag and inevitable abject sickness).

Slightly disappointing to have my understanding that 'top emission' OLED wouldn't be ready this year; it does look like they are concentrating on getting prices down, and who can blame them. I had hoped the E9 might have a really good built in soundbar (it still might), I understand the E8 sound was underwhelming?
Pricing will be interesting, but I assume they will be considerably more expensive than you can currently get the '8' series sets for.

Only thing that sounds interesting is the smooth gradation. Rest of it is of no concern to me.

Great news, now if Sony launch their PS5 next November and it also supports 2.1/VRR (assuming that’s a given) the upgrade temptation will be strong!
ALLM sounds great, assuming if you have a AVR, the whole chain has to be upgraded..

Hope the new BFI works well as it would be very “nice to have”...

Disappointing that it still has 2018 OLED panels, only anti-reflective coating being the difference. HDMI 2.1 if it is the full fat feature, then that's the major upgrade but there's hardly anything out there to take the advantage. Wonder if OLED has reached its peak?

      Any pics?

And presumably this HDMI 2.1 thing is only going to work if your blu ray player and av receiver supports it as well i.e. who'll have upgrade the entire lot?

It will be backwards compatible but all new features will most likely require the full chain upgrade (eArc will work on some of last years models as does ALLM with the Samsung’s).
I just hope it is 2.1 and not 2.1a...then b comes along in 3 years time and so the cycle carries on (I know this is how it will always work, but hoping 2.1 remains current for a good while given they have had plenty of time to plan this out).

It’s been mentioned a few times on the podcast it has reached its peak, will be tweaks from here on until microled arrives.

      I think it might be time to upgrade from a 65" E6 to a 77" C9.

Might have to dive in to a 77" C9 around Black Friday when prices have been reduced.

True HDMI 2.1 makes it pretty future proof. I assume we might even have some nice new Denon amps with HDMI 2.1 by the end of the year as well.

Just need Nvidia to release a HDMI 2.1 GPU now.

Not totally true guys...this feels like a nice evolution but no revolution...still not bad if they sort motion, gradation, bfi, hdmi 2.1,...

There are two areas of improvement for oled currently trialled...improving the substrat (Sinora) and adding qantum (Samsung on it but will not be surprised if LG does too). These two alongside inkjet printing will improve oled by 2-3 folds across the board

The above lacking improvement and burn in remains an issue for many and wish someone had the guts to guarantee...

So, still great TVs but not yet for some people including me.

C9 looks better than last year's C8. It seems LG have realized how ugly ;) the C8 design was and now reverted back to 2017 C7 look, for 2019 C9. It looks cleaner and more minimalist.

Luckily I am mounting my C8 on the wall. I don't think I can wait for the C9, I am guessing it will be around £3500 when it comes out? Which is about £1500 more than my C8.

There's also top emission OLED to consider, being developed by LG, or so some people say.

So does HDMI 2.1 mainly affect gaming? I mean moves only display on 24fps. Will there be an advantage to wait for 2.1 if movies are your only viewing? Will that also mean I need to upgrade my recently acquired Panasonic ub820?

Totally agree, nice to see a BFI that can be used in reality and if the processing/Luts can be improved on over the years, its all good news.
I guess some may expect to see OLED climb in the Nit department and I think its that part that has certainly peaked. But hey, plasma peaked a long time ago and the annual evolutions certainly helped provide some fantastic screens.
Will inkjet not just bring the costs down (not that I'll complain about that)?

I would say so. We might see higher frame rates at some point, for broadcast sports and even on a few films (UHD BluRay does support 60fps, so Hobbit and Billy Lynn could use it) and general TV/YouTube etc...but HDMI 2.0 already supports 4k @ 60fps anyway. I don't think UHD BluRay will ever support 60+ fps...and you have that already so no upgrade required. I would guess it'll be a long time before video goes beyond the 60fps we can already get. It's the variable frame rate that's just as useful as the higher rate for games.

It’s the image with the 4 tv’s on it, and it’s the 2nd from the right (Red image)
      LG’s OLED lineup for 2019. From left to right, the W9, E9, C9 and Z9 (8k oled)
