I have a lovely new LG37 LF7700. We had been using it to watch freeview and dvds and it performs well.
I have just linked it to a PS3 slim and am struggling to get set up to recieve 1080p high def. I am using a hdmi cable and have tried the freebie that was bundled with the ps3 and a more expensive wire.
I can only get a good image by selecting 1080i instead of the 1080p which the ps3 chooses through the hdmi connection.
Is there a simple way to fix this, or is there a problem with my television?

Thanks for your help,

Best wishes,

Ben.

Have you tried settings the aspect ratio to 'just scan' (on the TV), that means the TV will just display what it's sent instead of scaling it to fit the screen (even on a 1080p signal!). Then set the PS3 to output in 1080p.

But, the vast majority of games are in 720p, and the PS3 will, and should, send them in 720p, so I wouldn't worry about it too much, you should set it to whichever gives the best picture.

Interesting to hear that you've been having problems as well.

I am getting a good picture on 720p and 1080i. It may well be that I am trying to force the TV to display at a resolution whichh it is not being supplied with. I guess I need to try a blueray disk so I know that the input matches what I am asking the TV to do.

The original issue I had when I let the hdmi dictate what definition to display was bands of grey flickering travelling vertivcally over the screen. tehre was some distorsion of sound as well, whcih seems odd if it is purely a display problem.

Let me know how you get on with your solutions!

Best wishes,

Ben.

i have the 42 lg 7700, i had an issue with ps3 and 1080p, everything else works 720p 1080i but 1080p was messed up, so i gave it a factory reset and this worked

This is exactly the same problem I had, was told to do an software update but still get the problem sometimes. Has the factory reset still sorted the problem ? I have tried the fatory reset and it still hasn't sorted the problem.

Has anyone had any other 1080p problems with other equipment connected to the tv ?

Think the TV might be going back to the shop !

issuer esolved - had to plug in and tune free sat - perform firmware update via freesat (as opposed to freeview) new firmware found - 1080p enabled on ps3!
