LG Flatron M208WA & Freesat HD

I posted this also in the Freesat forum as I was unsure were the best place to post this was. Sorry!

I have been an owner of a Flatron M208WA for over a year now and yesterday I did some research into purchasing a Goodmans GFSAT200HD Freesat Receiver I thought I had checked everything but turns out I haven't.

Freesat receiver setup just fine, I purchased a DVI to HDMI adapter to connect the device to my monitor as the M208WA does not have a HDMI input, and I forgot that DVI doesn't include audio support! Which means I get a perfect crisp image but no audio.

So the question now is how do I connect my Freesat box to my TV so I get full HD viewing and at audio. The devices have the following connections/inputs.

Flatron TV (Product Page)

  • Video Signal - RGB Analog, Digital
  • PC - 15 Pin D-sub, DVI-D
  • Others- Composite, S-Video, Component, SCART, PC Audio In/Out,
  • AV Input - Component,SCART*2, Audio In/out

Goodmans GFSAT200HD Freesat Receiver (Product Page)

  • 1 x HDMI Socket
  • 2 x Scart Sockets
  • LNB In and Out
  • Ethernet - For future broadband 00connection
  • SPDIF - Digital Audio Out

I have looked in currys and they have the following cable which claims to allow both Audio & Video via DVI to HDMI but I am a bit reluctant considering it costs £50-60 to buy, also I don't want to be spending loads more £ on buying equipment. I may be forced to just return the GFSAT200HD and get maybe a different model that connects via DVI and has a separate audio cable that will work with my TV

I hope I am making some sense in what I have just asked!

I'm not an expert on the difference between Audio out from a Soundcard and the Audio out from a SCART, i'm pretty sure you can use a scart to phono then phono to jack converter (from the HD box) and plug it into the PC Audio in (Headphone socket) on the M208. The Volume level should still be controllable via the monitor.

Hey dn2004,

I'm not familiar with that model but I've passed this on to a colleague at LG HQ and will hopefully have something for you soon.

Thanks,

Helen
