LG DVD/HDD recorder problem

I recently (Jan) purchased an LG DVD/HDD RH7500 to use with my IDTV however yesterday I encountered a problem when I switched on the DVD. It started up OK, the green light coming on, with the 'please wait' message on the front and the usual whirr from the HDD however just as it reached the welcome screen it simply stops, the green light is still but the whirring stops and nothing happens!? is this something I am doing wrong or is it a HDD failure? I have tried resetting by pulling the plug and holding down the on switch for 5 seconds etc. but to no avail.
Any ideas?
