Been watching the 65" OLED run out prices and getting to the point where I'm ready to bite.

    I've got a price match at JL for the 65" C8 @ £1699 (delivered).

But Costco currently have the TX-65FZ952B @ £1379.

I know the Panny doesnt have Dolby support. But thats not a deal breaker for me. I'm not too bothered about the smart features, I prefer to use separate smart box as I don't trust TV manufacturers to provide updates for long.

My two main concerns about the Panasonic are the Frame stutter issues. Were these ever fully resolved?

And the lack of magenta-reducing filter, as there is a large window adjacent to the set.

Still I'm sorely tempted to grab this deal. Costco have an excellent returns policy, so worst case it will cost me a bit of time. Things seem to be moving quite fast, so I think i'm better off keeping the £300 in my pocket and putting it towards another run out model in two years. Rather then spending it now.

    Thoughts greatly appreciated.

It's a really good price for the Panny, especially with the sound bar as well, if that's what you need. I have a FZ802, basically the same set but without the sound bar. Like all OLEDs there's is the occasional stutter, nor worse than my old plasma. Fast motion such as sports is very good indeed and it's a joy to watch.

Thanks. Costco have 90 day returns so am tempted.

My AMP blew recently, so sound bar will be useful for now.

Not sure wether to continue playing russian roulette with the run out prices or dive in. But will have to decide soon as my local only has 6 left :/

Don't think you will see it cheaper . Most places still £1300 for a 55 802 . Brilliant TV love mine

I'm thinking we're getting close to the bottom, unless the 2019's have significant price drop.

But i'm pretty flexible which of the 2018's I purchase. Anything from LG/Panny/Sony/Philips would do. I'm not too fussed about Dolby support. I figure i'm better of grabbing the cheapest option now and upgrading later sooner.

Unless ofcourse there is a significant issue I've missed with any of these sets.

From what I read when buying mine the panny is better out of the box for colour and upscaling is brilliant with TV and blu rays . I rarely see any judder

Did they eventually fix the HCX skipping frames issue?

I remember reading the threads a while back and the patches they put out hadn't resolved it. Atleast not in all modes.

Never seen anything like that . I went from a kuro to the 802 and it's as good as that to me with the benefits of HDR 4k and smart TV . I would snap there hand off at that price

I think I probably will grab it tomorrow. They have 90 day returns so minimal risk, just some hassle to return it worst case.

The 65GZ is ~£2500, so this is ~45% discount on this years model. Probably not going much lower.

It's in all of them provided they have stock. Croydon and Hayes both have stock, phone you're local and they'll check stock for you.

    Not online though.

Also Hertz do Vans at an hourly rate of £13-£14 at Costco locations.

Thanks. Been dithering for quite a while. Still not sure I've caught the bottom of the pricing. But with 90 day return figured I may as well dive in. Will have to find somewhere to store the box :D

    Never say never :D

All setup now and enjoying it so far.

Currently using Pro 1, with IFC off (mrs is particularly susceptible to Soap Opera Effect). Any recommended settings I should start off with?

Is the review thread the owners thread?

There is a Panasonic 802 owners thread there are some settings on there about page 25 I believe . I used the settings off YouTube a guy called darko but I think pro1 seems to be the standard . Enjoy

Thanks, I forgot the 802 is essentially the same set sans sound bar.

I'll pop over to that thread and ask my questions :)

Have just picked up the Panny 65FZ952B in Costco.

Wow, just wow (and that’s coming from a 50" Pioneer Plasma) - great price - the only gap/concern for me is lack of Dolby Vision, not a deal breaker by any means - I would have just liked it to have had that facility (but maybe with combined consumer pressure Panasonic can provide it via an update)

Hows the motion handling? I fancy a c8 but don't fancy the hassle of returning it (done it before, can be a nightmare)
I've got a panny plasma and I'm in love with the way the picture moves, what swayed you toward the panasonic?

To early to tell, i’ve seen somethings, but nothing to note at the moment, plus i often wonder if I’m too sensitive, and at 65" - everything feel amplified.

I’m also still tweaking the settings, and also working from a variety of sources - once i’ve got it stable i’ll be able to tell.

Stranger Things S3 has just been released and I expect that will put the screen through its paces..

Putting price aside, the main thing for me is that I preferred the colour palette/processing on the Panasonic (which is maybe a rollover from me having a pioneer plasma for so long) and also it just seems to handle standard definition and HD better on such a large screen. (I had LG C8 and
FZ952 side by side, and I just saw more details and better colours on the Panny )

Also - i don’t care much about the OS, it’s really not the best on the Panny, but then again, should I care when I already have Apple TV and Amazon Fire connected; my app needs and experience are much better managed with them.

The one downside on the FZ952 is the lack of Dolby Vision and Atmos - and it’s annoying that’s unlikely to come via an update - and while it’s there on their 2019 models - I don’t have £1k more to spend - this one from Costco, is a great price and a very impressive performer.

Just picked up the last fz952 from costco chester, and coming from an LG B7 and I am very impressed. Out of the box settings are so natural, watched nadal on bbc UHD and compared to LG no stutter, and really smooth lifelike PQ. This is an absolute bargain....

This could be me not having much knowledge on the subject, but say if the TV does not have Dolby Atmos, would it not just be a case of buying an AV Receiver which does? Thus meaning it's irrelevant if the TV has it or not as the speakers connected to your AV Receiver will distribute Dolby Atmos, is that correct?

Just plumb your sources into the receiver(Atmos capable), one out to the tv arc hdmi input, and that's it.
There would be little point in a TV without an Atmos soundbar, which the 952 doesn't have, having it imo. Maybe for the inbuilt Netflix app...?
