Hi all,

I bought 2 days ago a LG C1 48 , i love it so much it's exactly what i wanted, everything is smooth and fast, what an upgrade

Problem here is i got headache not strong, a sorta of dizziness and brain fog state...

My wife hasnt got any problem

I tried to change the parameters, but i cant find a real optimum parameters where these problem disappear

Anyone had the problem and what did they do to solve it ?

I had no problem with my previous lcd

Motion handling, perhaps? Screen brightness? Noise from its PSU?

Could be the refresh rate of the panel. Some people can notice very slight picture judder/oscillation. Perhaps it might be worth getting it swapped out to see if a second sample causes you the same problems.

It does take a few days for your OLED to settle down, well they say about 50hrs usage, but many advise 200hrs before its really best.

Sounds like you are doing the right things though, might be worth making sure you have fine tuned or set it up as best as you can, a popular method is switching off energy saving features, filmmaker mode (most accurate) then adjust your OLED light, some prefer 35 oled light or 50 so adjust to what suits you best.

When I first got my CX OLED the motion was dodgy at best, especially with sports the motion looked rough and digital or processed but after a few days It just seemed to go away and went smooth.

Always worth also making sure your set top boxes, cable or sky are set up correctly to your TV, ie 4K resolution etc, otherwise id say give it a few days see how it goes and as a back up, check your return policy length, just in case you do need to send it back, if you do better to say its faulty also.

I stopped looking at the TV since wednesday, i still have headache since this day...
I'm hesitating to return it, and takes a sony LCD or a QLED, since it's not bearable to continue like this

Bit odd though you would still have a headache even when not watching the OLED TV, are you sure your health is good ? eye sight/glasses not changed, not covid or coming down with a bug of some kind etc

Still if you have to do what is best for your health, OLEDs are not for everyone.

Yes, but it's diminishing it's very light now...
I went to the eye specialist, he told me everything is normal... and when i asked him about the OLED i got the response: "i dont know" , basically here in france it's like an industry, they have assistant who do all the work and then you meet the doctor for 3 or 4 min, they dont have time for anything specific

So, im in a mood i'm affraid to watch the TV given how bad i react, i think i will wait 1 day or 2, and then take the sony X85 or X90, a classic LCD with a VA panel

That's good at least if its subsiding, think its the same everywhere around the world now, docs are rare and its handled by assistants half the time !

Cant go wrong with a nice VA panel, although I do miss the blacks, contrast and viewing angles now that I am back with a VA Samsung Panel from last years range, I do however enjoy VA panels motion and brightness, will eventually go back to OLED next year.

Hi all,

A quick update, it might help people.

So i returned the C1, and i took a sony X90J instead

But i had still a headache...

After thinking about it, it might not be the image, so i tried to output the sound on a 2 Kef loud speaker, then all headache disappeared, all the feel of dizziness, nausea disappeared i feel rest

My theory is the the TV constructor are trying to put so much on the sound level but with so little place it produce inverse result

I'm planing to return the X90J coz the image quality is on another level on the C1, i just hesitate between the 48 and 55 inches, im at 2.5 meters from the TV

I just feel the 55 is taking too much place, but seems the LG C1 is more "compacted" the sony

Tbh the symptoms you describe sound Covid, not tv, related (I have had long-covid for 18 months now so can relate).

Glad to hear you’re feeling better now. 👍🏻

Lol no its the sound, i have a very sensible hear for example i'm not able to put earplugs without getting major headache (but i had never problem with sound TV)
In retrospective, feeling the loss of equilibrium it's all related to the hears

Hey, I’ve had the LG C1 for a month now. I’ve had head aches nearly the entire month and vertigo/nausea for a few days in the first week I’ve had it. I’ve run my sound to a sound system since day one, so I wouldn’t be so confident in your theory.

I’ve been using it as my main working PC monitor and occasional gaming this past month. I’ve read the fast flickering from OLED, the pulses are sharper at low brightness levels and this causes eye dialation to occurs more frequently which causes stress we feel as headaches.

Ok so what are the parameters you changed and you find the better for you ?

I just got the 55 c1, and i dont know what to do if it still got me headache as i already changed 2 times lol

I will sell it, as it has 5 years warranty and i got it from half the price as my compagny paid the half so no big deal, but at least i tried as i love oled

My next experiment is to keep the brightness hi and never use the display with the room lights off. Sounds counter intuitive, but from what my research tells me, this should reduce the eye fatigue from pupil dilation wanting to constantly adjust light to dark. Good luck!

So many factors for headaches, been working with electronic devices many decades.

1:- Distance between yourself and your screen, make sure its right distance, if you are sitting too close that can cause RSI type injuries, you have to remember your eye is also a muscle, if you strain it by looking at the screen too much or overwork it in anyway it can cause health issues.

good correct distance guide here:

2:- Get the right picture settings, I don't recommend setting contrast and brightness too high, with OLEDs once you set your favourite picture mode, lets say filmmaker mode (most accurate) simply adjust your OLED brightness to a comfortable level your eyes are happy with. (this is with eco power switched off)

3:- Take regular breaks from the TV, being glued to the screen is not always the best, its good to walk about or off the chair/sofa every hour or less for a few minutes.

4:- Blinking exercises, sounds wacky but your eyes need moisture and we forget often to blink, so blink fast a few times every now and then, this keeps your eye sight and eye health healthy.

5:- Power supplies and even internal electronics can sometimes create strange frequencies or electrical type sounds, which may also trigger headaches, so again double check things out, maybe switch the TV off for a day and see if that helps your headaches, you may have other electronic devices that give off strange coil noises but usually you can hear it when you put your ear towards the electrical device like a TV or Cable box etc, its usually the power supply but it can be other parts. It goes back to point 1 I made earlier with distancing, the more distance you have the less effect it should have on you but that is not always the case so switch off devices per item and see if it helps.

I just put the sharpness at 0, i remember when editing the sharpness in adobe lightroom with too much sharpness i had headache and was troubled...
I putted sharpness at 50, i thought it was easier for the brain to analyse but it might be the contrary,

I have put no soud to disqualify the possible issue with it

So now the violent headache which i had have disappeared, but i have still the impression of vertigo.

I'm able to concentrate on other things, i wasnt before...

I will let 1 week or two, i dont know if the store will allow me to return the TV it would be third one, but anyway i'm optimistic now and i would have done the maximum to be able to watch oled

There is so much difference with LCD

I dont think putting the brightness on high will change, basically it looks like a flickering issue, and on the rtings graph, there is always a dip in luminosity for a fixed period no matter the brightness:

But if you take a lcd, for example a samsung panel, yes it changes a lot:

backlight-large.jpg

What surprise me, is it possible the little dip in luminosity on the oled panel provoke headache, it looks like very small

What makes me a little affraid, is that even when looking on a fixed picture in the oled, my brain is perturbed, it might not be motion or sharpness, but it's the light modulation like a stroboscope which cause the problem

Not sure if your using this OLED with only a PC but some other things to try if you already haven't.

1) Try flux and select reduce eye strain from recommend colours, this may reduce blue light output which is supposed to affect peoples eyes more (OLED allegedly outputs less blue light to begin with).

2) Try 120Hz output, some people get less eye strain with higher refresh rates but also you find some were the opposite is true.

3) Try enabling dark mode in windows for os and apps , this might make the ABL (automatic brightness limiter) less active, with lots of white on screen OLED will auto reduce/dim brightness.

Turn off as much picture processing as possible, put TV into game optimizer mode and rename the HDMI input to PC to enable RGB 444, see if that makes any further differences.

There is very little data/research into these eye fatigue issues with LCD/OLED, probably as the issues can be unique to individuals. PC Monitors Info has an article on eye strain & comfort but its for LCD usage. Another website is ledsrtain were you can find others with issues.

Thank u, but i'm using the TV only from my sofa

I'm getting desperate, and affraid of powering the TV

Forgot to include flux in my list but see next mentioned it, that is a game changer to my eyes and reduces if not cured my headaches. Or you can enable Windows 10 night light but I prefer flux since its free and quicker to change settings on the fly.

I believe the LG oled also has a eye comfort mode which does similar you may wish to enable that and give it a go.

I suffer from oversensitivity to motion and flicker that can give me headaches.

On the LG CX, I highly recommend switching on Truemotion and playing with the settings. Try Smooth or turn judder/blur both to 10 and this should all but remove motion issues that can cause headaches.

The repercussion to this is that the Truemotion interpolation causes unwanted artefacts but at least it stops the stuttering and juddering mess with low frame per second broadcasts.

I just bought the LG C1 3 wks ago and have been getting dizzy spells this last week. I believe it to be the tv that is causing it. Have not found any good solution so far on the internet but it seems more people have this issue. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Same as what was mentioned before really you want to try and turn off picture processing, generally it can add motion settings which attempt to smooth out playback but it can also give people a dizzy vomit inducing effect.

A basic go to move for OLED owners has been to reset the TV to defaults then go through the set up again and then switch off any ECO settings, then set picture mode to Filmmaker mode (creators intent) this automatically switches off any processing including motion features, then adjust brightness to something your eyes like some like 35 or 45 or 55 etc, then see how you get on really.

It does take the brain and eyes a few days to get use to it really but once you do it should be the norm. If it does not you can try Aventadors suggested although I have advised the opposite its worth a go, if its still there you may just be too sensitive for OLEDs and are only use to LED TVs. You may only have a small return window to return TVs also so bare this in mind.

Still if you have to do what is best for your health, OLEDs are not for everyone.
Headache triggered by television screens can take up to 72 hours to go away.
