LG B8 OLED TV - Owners and Discussion Thread

Can someone help me please with my settings.
I watch netflix all the time but never get HDR or Dolby Vision appearing well the TV does not tell me i am using it. What material can i use to check?

thanks
It will pop up in the top right if you are using it, you have to have the top TV package to get the 4k

I have the top Netflix package but never see anything pop up. What show can i test this with for Dolby Vision and HDR?

Try The Witcher or White Lines, both are DV I think, off the top of my head.

Once it's playing, if nothing pops up in the corner, go to the settings with the magic remote, not the full thing, just the list down the right hand side and check the display says Cinema Home (I think that's the one for DV isn't it?) if not change it to that.

Ah ok yes that did pop up and say Dolby Vision. Just popped into the settings and it has change to cinema home. Are the better settings i can use for this cinema home config?

Also where is this setting? Does it only appear when you are playing something in Dolby vision?

Hi all. I was watching casino royale last night. Did anyone watch it? The picture was so dark, I had to change to ISF brightness & up the brightness up as well. I usually watch normal TV using ISF dark, with 52 brightness & gamma 2.4.

Hello. I have this TV with sky uhd.

When I watch a UHD film on Disney plus or netflix dolby digital pops up in top right. If I play a UHD PS4 game then HDR pops up top right.

If I watch UHD sport or movie on sky I don't get anything pop up top right. Does this mean its not coming through in 4k? It looks good, but if I go to picture options im given different choices to those when dolby vision or hdr is active.

So basically, when im watching sky 4k should i be getting a pop up?

Sky only do a limited amount of HDR (if you have the right version of Q box) there’s only about 3 nature shows at the moment.

No films or sport, so unless you’re watching one of the nature docs, you won’t get any pop up in the corner. Should still be 4K though.

As @Goooner says, Sky has only got a few HDR programmes at the moment. Try a search for "Gangs of Lemurs" and download the UHD version. You should then get the HDR HLG flag pop up in top right of screen.

Has anyone been able to install Disney + on this without updating TV firmware version? I am on 4.10.25 and when I go to download from the app store I hit a message saying software needs to be updated??

Same here.

Same here. Do you all think eventually all the tv apps will go that way? Won’t be able to update them unless we update the firmware?
Seems to be the case - still not enough of an incentive to move to a borked firmware mind!

What's up with the firmware? All seems ok for me...

Thats great, but I'm sure there are plenty on here who wouldn't budge from 4.10.25. Might be worth scanning through the thread to see what I mean.

I just bought a Fire TV Stick 4k for 30 quid (+ 14 quid for the Amazon Ethernet adapter) exactly because of this.

I can access through Xbox One X, but having the option to run direct from TV for a quick blast of Jeff Goldblum would be nice :D

Hi all. I’m thinking of getting a b8 to replace my c6v just wondering if someone could answer a few questions.
Does the b8 of atmos passthrough?
Does it have the Apple TV app airplay 2?
Does it have amazon Alexa ?

Many thanks

I have a B8 but I think you're better off going for a B/C9 if you want Atmos passthrough. The Apple TV app and Airplay 2 haven't yet landed for 2018 sets. It does have Alexa.

can anyone tell me with Alexa on this TV how you activate it on the remote?.. I have got all my account settings set up on the tv. On my C9 downstairs I hold down the Amazon button on the remote this does not work on b8 just goes straight into the Amazon app. any ideas? thanks

As far as I know the TV can be controlled, with limited functionality, by an Echo device but it can't act as an Alexa device itself.

Finally running out of patients with this tv thinking of selling and going for a Samsung Q90r for the sheer fact that no matter what i watch on this tv wether it be in a light or dark room, sport, movies tv the picture is simply too dark even with lots of tinkering in the settings and it seems even worse since the last update.
