LG 65B8 - Will it send Dolby Atmos to my AV receiver via HDMI? (Not e-ARC)

Well-known Member

I have a B8 65" OLED and I know it doesn't have HDMI e-ARC, which I think is required to send Dolby Atmos to the AV receiver. I'm in the process of moving house to a bungalow, and in our new home I do plan on fitting ceiling Atmos speakers as well as a full 7 speaker surround on the walls.

So, should I also be looking to upgrade the TV to a used C9, or possibly a new C1 or G1 if I really want to stretch the budget? Those would give me e-ARC.

Is e-ARC really required for full 11 speaker Atmos surround sound for Netflix, Prime etc from the TV.

My girlfriend's parents really want to buy my 65" B8, but I don't particularly want to upgrade unless there's a real benefit to do so.

Many thanks,

'Lossy' Atmos (ie: Dolby Digital Plus with Atmos) can be passed from the TV via regular HDMI ARC.

Obviously, the content you're accessing/viewing needs to be encoded with Atmos. And your AVR needs to support Atmos decoding.
