Just want a bit of advice on viewing distance for 3D. I am looking at the above mentioned TV, it comes in 47" or 55", the TV will be on the wall and will be about 4 or so meters away from the sofa - will the 3D affect disappear on a "47 TV at this distance? Would I realistically need to get the "55 version? :)

No it wont dissapear, 11ft is the optimum viewing distance for the 47" version and 14ft for the 55" as recommended by LG.... you will be fine with either size.
The general concensus on here is that the further you sit away from your passive 3D set the more pronounced the 3D becomes.

If it's mounted on the wall vertical viewing angle will be important though due to it's horizontal polarisation method.. aprox 15-20% vertical angle iirc.

WOW I thought it was the opposite Lol! So it basically comes down to whether I will go with the cheaper option and have a 47" or splash out the extra £400 odd and go with a nice big set... hmmmm decisions Lol

But the worse the 2D HD gets. Around 8ft is best for a 47" and 9ft for 55". So I would suggest nearer those distances for over all viewing.

Well there's no way we can be 8 feet away due to the design of the room so looks like I will have to get the 55" and hope the 2D HD still looks good lol

Put a newspaper where you're going to put the TV and if you can read at least the two largest fonts (main headline and sub headline) from your expected viewing distance, you should be OK.

At 4 metres or more I think even 55" is too small.
