Hi , folks
I am from Belgium and i just bought a new LG 42" Plasma
the new 42PC51R (with analog tuner)

but : saddly the image quality isn't that of the 42pc1d(r) !!!
i saw in the shops .
LG 's 15000:1 contrast for this 42pc51r is far from true !
The tv looks great , thats true with its piano black.
also there is a lot less reflexion than the others (panasonic, samsung, etc...)

DVD over component or HDMI is ok (not that good as 42PC1D)
but all analog SD is bad !:thumbsdow
the picture is really sharp but there is
a lot of posterisation (solarisation, banding, clayface,...)
and black is grey just like a LCD

so now i am very disappointed, LG service is coming to take a look next week ,they will replace the tuner ! and see if it is better
i also hope they replace the panel because i also have 1 dead pixel )

SO BE WARNED , don't act like i did and order it without seeing it for real ! I hope its a faulty tv and they replace it for a new one, if not
this is the first and last LG i'm buying:thumbsdow

1) Its an analogue tuner what do you expect it will be useless they all are on all flatscreens they just arent designed to cope with the signal imperfections

2) All PQ will improve dramatically after 300 hours or so as long as you keep the contrast and brightness low for this period

3) hook up a digital tuner and try it

regards

I agree run it in for a few hundred hours first, of even better swop it for one with a digital tuner or connect a Set top box to it & you should see the difference.

About time they stopped making these with analog tuners.

Yup , i bought it over the internet
but its to late now to return it , so i am hoping LG wil fix or replace it .

:lease:

see pics for bad quality

I bought a Panasonic 42PV70 two weeks ago and the picture is excellent right out of the box, even with the inbuild analogue tuner I have a very decent picture although I use my digital cabletunerbox of course...
So plasma can be good at instance without running in!

Another thing: If you lower contrast in the run in period you will only extend the period of phosphor aging (logical ehh?) Better to keep it just a little bit lower but be sure to avoid static images and don't look at the same channel(logo) for more then two hours at a time for the first 200-300 hours.
When I'm at home not watching TV I put it on BBC (no logo) to shorten the burn in period...
