I placed an order for the LG 42PC1R. I am not sure if is available in the UK, but in Europe is right now in the shops. Saw it and played a bit-the XD engine is improved-you can control all the processes independently, it has new chip, 14bit colour processor, clear filter ,2HDMI etc… Very aggressive priced:) Hope it will come by the end of this week.

The following may be of interest also seeing as I was reading about the Genesis chipset on AVforums earlier today:-

LG Electronics has designed Genesis Microchip's recently launched Cortez Advanced video controller into LG’s 42in and 50in plasma screens (models 42PC1R, 42PC3R, 50PC1R, 42PB2R and 50PB2R).

The Cortez Advanced supports high-demand dual applications. Features include 1080p and WUXGA LCD/PDP/DLP panel support, true 10-bit performance throughout the entire device, two 3-D 10-bit IntelliComb video decoders and two channels of DCDi by Faroudja video processing to support picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture.

The controller also integrates a Faroudja DCDi Cinema video format converter upgraded to 10-bits, Blue Stretch and flesh-tone correction and flexible 10-bit sharpening algorithms.

Well I can't see on the LG Netherlands detailed specifications, but on LG Sweden it says:

Color Reproduction Electronic part: 14 bit
Color Reproduction Panel: 12 bit
Supported Signals NTSC,PAL,SECAM,HD 720p,1080i/p, VGA~SXGA

So I am curious does it support also 1080p-the chip is capable to accept this signal....

http://nordic.lge.com/sv/prodmodeld...tId=01&modelCodeDisplay=42PC1R&model=NOTHING#

Then click on "Specifikationer"

Yep - that's what it clearly says on the site 1080i/p, and the chip is capable of it so here's hoping :)

BTW that's an impressive list of control options on the XD 3 engine........

Stainway have you got any reviews on this set? what was your impressions with it in comparison to previous lg models,is PQ better? £1,249.00:eek: is unbelievably cheap for a new plasma.
Though as with the PX60, plasmas do seem to have fallen in terms of pricing a lot.
A year ago 42PX5D had a starting point of £2000 and now we have £1,249? where is the catch?

No, not yet CheekyKid-it is just released now. When I was in the shop they had LG 42PX4R just above the LG 42PC1R-my impression was that the LG 42PC1R has more smooth image and indeed less or none reflection.

The German "Guter Rat" reviewed it as best price/quality buy, but there will be more reviews later I think.
http://www.testberichte.de/test/produkt_tests_lg_electronics_42pc1r_p67588.html

About the price - probably just aggressive prices before the WC 2006-I am getting it for 1,500 euro (something like 1,030 GBP  )

From where?:D 1 grand for a new generation plasma is simply NOTHING! £400-500 difference from other screens combined with decent quality and no retention makes this plasma a bargain.

Are both of the scarts RGB? Sadly there are only 2 :(

From online shop in The Netherlands. Only one scart is RGB, but you’ve got also 2 HDMI and component and VGA...........

My problem is that all my devices require either RCA or Scart interface so the presence of 2 scarts isnt very welcomed by me:( . Also i noticed there is no dvi input.

Glad to see the first user impression on the 42PC1R, I'm in the process of buying an LG myself and narrowed the selection down to the 42PC1R and the 42PC1RR (mind the extra R). did anyone see the 42PC1RR in real life? Did anyone locate a downloadable manual of the RR? It seems to be based on the same panel/hardware as the 42PC1R but with 2 tuners instead of 1, 1 HDMI instead of 2 and a build in 80GB hard disk for PVR. The 42PC1RR is 200 euros more expensive and I'm doubting which one to choose. (I like the idea of a build in PVR but I don't like it has only one HDMI input)

Using the correct cable you can connect DVI directly to one of the two HDMI ports

Robin78,

Both 42PC1R and 42PC1RR have 2 tuners. 42PC1R -2 HDMI, 42PC1RR-1 HDMI and 80GB HD PVR.

The 42PC1RR will be available in The Netherlands (and the rest of Europe I guess) in mid. May 2006.

They use same chipset and panels. I personally prefer to have 2 HDMI instead of 80GB HD PVR build in.

Thanks Stainway,

I guess you´re right about the two tuners in the 42PC1R, I got my (wrong) info on the German LG website (they state there it only has one tuner) but it seems that LG has some problems to get his own techincal data correct on all their sites (eg. on LG spain the contrast ratio of the 42PC1R is quoted to be 15000:1) On the other hand the single HDMI connection of the 1RR seems to be correct and after studing the chipset a bit it seems logic that LG needed to use the second HDMI connection internally for the PVR

The 42PC1RR seems to be available in the Netherlands already (plasmadiscounter.nl in Naarden has them in stock), I've not seen any 1R or 1RR here in Spain though and redcoon.es indeed expect them to be in Stock mid may (the 1R for €1400,- and the 1RR for €1600)

Keep me/us informed about your opinion on your new plasma,

Robin

Well I received the LG 42PC1R today:clap:
I had no time to play with it yet, but my first impression is-WOW!
It has very smooth picture even with the normal SD channels, with HD channels is simply stunning . The XD engine is with advanced settings. It looks very sexy. In general the PQ is improved a lot over my old PX3RV.
You can watch it from 50 cm and still looks fantastic. There no dead pixels etc....Will try to give more info tomorrow after I play a bit with it :hiya:

Well after playing with the DVE disk and setting the scart, component and HDMI input I can say that I am very, very pleased.

The black however are not as good as the PX3RV.
The PC1R can't show blacker than black-I am using the same DVD player. It does not crash the black, but it can't show the shadow in the THX optimizer for example. There is a black advanced setting, but works only for HDMI inputs.
Contrast is improved over the PX3RV-perfect showing in all the tests.
I switched off the XD engine-contrast settings, but left XD engine colour and XD engine NR on Adaptive-works fantastic.

Once again picture is very smooth and clean, good shadow details, very natural colours.

The whole set looks classy-even the remote (which I am not going to use) is very well made. The menu is improved-much more easily switching between sources (and faster).

For the money I paid (1500 euro) the LG works amazing-my Humax HDCI 2000 and Xbox360 were looking very nice on the PX3RV, but now with HD signals is simply fantastic.

How does it compare with the px5d?

I am not sure. The PX5D might be with better blacks. But the PC1R has better processing in general-really smooth picture from any source.

P.S. There is even a polishing cloth included from LG.

Stainway

You gonna get some nice piccies for us to look at then:D

Glad you like youre purchase

kjt2004,

Yes I will, but want to do it with proper cam., not with my mobile phone:)

P.S. Sound is very good-Deep bass (for a TV speakers) there is also equalizer and surround mode-sounds very good for a TV.

Ok just took one picture with my mobile, but I will get normal camera to make few more pictures :hiya:

Hi Folks,

New to this forum and have been scouring the threads for a not to expensive HD 42" when I came across this one, it sounds ideal! I have seen some of the other LG models in rubbishy places like Dixons and Curry's and they looked very nice.

Decided to get in touch with LG for a UK release date and this was the reply I got today

"Thank you for your email The 42PC1R is a European Model and there are, at present, no plans to release the unit into the UK. However, it is available over the internet from various European retailers. Yours Sincerely, LG Electronics UK Helpdesk "

:(

I guess you can order them from Europe but what about any problems/warranty? That Komplett (?) site at the top of the thread is a Uk site (though based in Europe I believe) anyone dealt with them (they don't seem to mention delivery or warranty anywhere?

Drat.

Al.

Lordal

Go to the comet website i believe they have it , may even bee doing a deal with freebies thrown in from what i can remember( ie recorder, surround sound systems)

:hiya:

Sub £1500

Thanks KJT,

Had a look at the Comet site, they have a 42PC1D I'm not sure if it's the same model? The spec says no HDMI though further down it says it does. No mention of the clear filter or other new bits either but the pic looks the same.

This model is not on LG's Uk site either!

No mention of any freebies (unless I'm looking at the wrong one!) though the only extra thing I would need is a wall mount for now.

Still at £1500 it's moving past my budget in any case, most vexing.

Ok i dont know if its the same plasma myself , also on currys website for £1199.

Hopefully stainway is looking at this as he knows more about these than myself

seems the same to me says it has HDMI connectivity

Hopefully he can shed some light on the subject
