The question: Do I need to buy an amplifier for this DVD or can I just buy a set of speakers and hook it up direct to the DVD.
At the back of the DVD their is six outputs where it sais front left and right, back left and rigtht, center and bass.

It would be great if someone could help me out here.

Thats Right! You need a 5.1 Channel In AMP, or a one with a built in Decoder. For the Amp I would definetly go for the NAD T750. Ok it looks an ugly duckling, but were it really matters its sounds GREAT!
